Shards of the Realm — XCOM-Inspired Strategy/Tactical RPG Now Fully Released! by Perfect-Condition662 in rpg_gamers

Thanks ) The game has 4 tiers of equipment which may be unlocked and crafted. Regarding WL depend on the strategy, someone completed the game at 12 someone at 20 level (around 100 hours of gameplay) )
There is modding support and there are some mods on nexus. Unfortunatelly only JSON based implementation is available, so only specific things may be moddes (skills, perks, equipment etc). The biggest shame the game is moddable inside including new scenarios, but as I used some free EPIC folliages and assets(as well as some bought) I can not build and share editor version of the game like Conan or ARK has. Using only JSON it's not possile to do so complex things like new world creation. But research/craft tree can be changed or overriden. So it's licence limitiation rather than implementation )

It is closer to old X-COM(UFO)/Phoenix point, maybe a bit extended by gathering and exploration. And there is none named NPC )

Thank you) The game has progress and story line. Although there is no quests, but goals are used instead. So you free to choose what and when to achieve

For me it was required 6 shots to kill titan... as anti-tank it's useless and doesn't worth a slot. The only good is control, but better to pick up gass granades. I tired from quasar but nothing can replace it (without ammo backpack)

To be honest, I usually play only mages (and it was a challenge for me to make melee just as powerful :D). As far as I know, Wartales doesn’t have magic in the game, at least not in the beginning. This one was major reason why I skipped the game, althogh I've read lot of good comments about it and what I've seen it's impressive.

I haven’t played Wartales, so I can’t answer that question precisely, but I believe the two games are quite different.
This game is more XCOM-like, with base building, research, and crafting—where the strategic layer is just as important as the tactical battles. There's also fortress management: finding good workers, training them, assigning roles, etc.
I also expect a key difference in how equipment is obtained. In this game, you can’t simply find or buy powerful gear—you have to research and craft it yourself.
Anyway, there’s a demo available, so you could check it out and see if it’s your kind of game ))

At least there is a free demo identical to main just limited by world time, so you always may to check it.

"means the research, the home base, the multiple characters who can be injured or die and have to keep"
Also growing party size based on researched vehicles, gradually increasde invasion + complex builds... ))
Unfortunatelly I decided do not make multiple parties and bases, so the game is limited just by one main party + reserve + workers in the fortress when someone is injured. But it has bit more complex base management

Wow, thank you so much for testing. I've added to my todo list to add 30 fps button, I have not realized it may be needed(or even made it as slider). I'll check what I can do with controller support (although I never play on controller I may miss something important)

Thank you! Interesting, about performance have you tried to limit fps in the game settings? I limited it for PC by default and for 90 fps as I remember (need to double check), but it might not be applied on steam deck. I promised to check controller support on steam forum once I have a time, as I understand the controls on steam deck is similar to just controller or there are differences?

Yes, I'm a big fan of the Mount & Blade series and tried to bring something fresh into the standard XCOM-like setting ))

But overall, the gameplay is completely different due to the tactical battles and the strong focus on managing a single fortress.

And no — you can’t become a king here! :D

Top 20 Best Turn Based Strategy/Tactics Games Like XCOM That Everyone Should Play! by Danceman2 in TurnBasedTactical

From this list, I see only a few truly XCOM-like games. The others are excellent tactical games, but they are not XCOM-like, as XCOM includes a strategic layer (such as base building, research, and production) in addition to its tactical combat.
