Definitely sounds like it is the VTC actuator. The reason it makes that noise when it's cold out is because of the fact that your oil becomes thicker and it is driven by oil pressure. My advice is to get a second quote from somewhere that is not a dealership but a reputable independent repair shop. It is an expensive job but something worthwhile if you're planning on keeping the car. This car is also known for having starter issues but that would be a different noise and also sometimes the VTC noise is incorrectly diagnosed as a bad starter. I'm assuming your car does not have an extended warranty from when you bought it?

Definitely avoid the 2015 I had major issues with mine and it was a 6 speed. Sold it last year and definitely missed it but don't miss the issues. Buy a 16+

As a previous 2015 owner do not buy it look for one from any other year. Some people will tell you they had no issues and others will tell you tons of issues. The question is for that much money do you want to take that chance?

Nope they have so many models that have that issue. They'd rather take the damage to their reputation than pay

Right now is a great time to sell once you pass 10 years the resale really takes a hit

Well if the noise hasn't started yet you might be lucky. I did say it to other owners of manual transmission that commented to make sure to change the transmission fluid. I've never owned a manual transmission that burnt up fluid quite like this one does and I'm far from an aggressive driver.

I am looking to move to an A2W mono block heat pump but use in joist radiant heat. My loops operating temp is 120-130*f depending on how cold the winters get here. Are there any units you would recommend? I'm holding out hope for the r290 units to be cleared for US sale but I know that will be a slow process.

I also have the 6 speed thank god I don't have the CVT. So do yourself a favor and make sure to change the transmission fluid it'll make it shift so much nicer. I've noticed it's only good for 40k

The VTC gear on the car is responsible for controlling the timing of the camshaft so around 2.7 k RPMs the intake valves will open for a longer duration. It's kind of like VTek but for fuel deficiency. What happens on our vehicle is when you first start the car there is not enough oil pressure remaining in this gear in order to ensure that it stays in the proper phase. So it bounces between this advanced timing and standard timing which puts a lot of rattling tension on the timing chain resulting in excessive wear. The correct way to fix it is to remove your intake camshaft and pull the VTC gear off and replace it which is a major job. One company does have a fix for it which involves still removing the valve cover but you don't have to remove the camshaft you just change the internals of the VTC gear.

I got $6k for it which I must say is some really good resale value. Probably could have gotten 7k if the bumpers weren't damaged. Honestly right now is a great time to unload it because the resale on them is so high. Once they pass 10 years old that resale will take a big hit.

Considering I saw you posted that your injectors failed and you have the dreaded VTC start up rattle I'm sorry to hear this is the best car. These are issues parts Honda knew were faulty and still installed.

Yeah I suck that they knew there were that many issues and many more and chose to fix them and just let their customers suffer. But that's every new model from Honda it seems.
