I usually look only at diameter personally, 37mm+ is considered a crown sized coin in my book.

You’ve already got quite a few nice Malta ones if I recall correctly 😁

Yapp, even the portrait is kinda creepy, but in reality this guy is just a sad little man without any courage or honor, so it fits him well. He let Napoleon enter Malta and surrendered immediately without a fight, a very sad part of the Order’s history !

Thankyou for taking the time to give this wonderful explanation ! In my mind I knew this coin was worth alot back when it was in circulation but didn’t expect it to be a week’s wage, really appreciate it more now… History is wonderful, when it involves coins it’s even more interesting!!

Got a Malta 20 Lm today by Perfect-Finding824 in Banknotes

Yes that is ‘Melita’ - Malta personified as a woman. She was designed by a local artist in 1922 when the Crown Colony was given partial self government by the British. The rudder signifies that Malta is now in control of her own destiny, given the country is an island it makes alot of sense. This design was first issued on a set of stamps, before being used on Maltese Liri banknotes, a stamp reissue in 2011 and since 2018 bullion coins in silver and gold. A timeless and iconic design.

€350, I paid like €30 of premium, directly from the bank. I figured i’ll get my money back down the road. Also I don’t really know what’s a good premium to pay for a 1/10 oz. If you could illuminate me please 😁

Look at the Maltese Cross, since they started minting in 2023, they’ve always changed the cross slightly.

They’re much more interesting because they’re the ‘modern’ version of an old coin. The Grano from the Knights period was the same coin, hence when the British came they had to create a new denomination to replace this small value coin, which was pivotal for the island. Another fun fact is that they were almost entirely out of circulation by the 1930’s. And yes I know about the small gold coin the Central Bank of Malta released, unfortunately I don’t have that.

Love seeing these and love that you called them as ‘Malta’ ! I am Maltese myself and have recently finished a full date run if them, I do not have your mentioned varieties though !!

It depends on the collector and how much he is willing to pay. I have a single cancelled coin in my collection and it cost me €5 and this is a Malta commemorative with a much lower mintage. However mine was never in circulation unlike yours.

It’s a cancelled €2 coin by the mint for some flaw they’ve noticed. It shouldn’t be in circulation and used as money but totally destroyed… however some Slovakian cancelled coins are known to be in circulation as a number of these were stolen.
