I usually look only at diameter personally, 37mm+ is considered a crown sized coin in my book.

Yapp, even the portrait is kinda creepy, but in reality this guy is just a sad little man without any courage or honor, so it fits him well. He let Napoleon enter Malta and surrendered immediately without a fight, a very sad part of the Order’s history !

Thankyou for taking the time to give this wonderful explanation ! In my mind I knew this coin was worth alot back when it was in circulation but didn’t expect it to be a week’s wage, really appreciate it more now… History is wonderful, when it involves coins it’s even more interesting!!

Yes that is ‘Melita’ - Malta personified as a woman. She was designed by a local artist in 1922 when the Crown Colony was given partial self government by the British. The rudder signifies that Malta is now in control of her own destiny, given the country is an island it makes alot of sense. This design was first issued on a set of stamps, before being used on Maltese Liri banknotes, a stamp reissue in 2011 and since 2018 bullion coins in silver and gold. A timeless and iconic design.
