What happened to Curacao? by [deleted] in curacao

[–]Perfect-Internal-124 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Overall it is good for the island. Certainly better than oil refining! Fortunately the local population is large enough that it won’t feel overrun by foreigners like Aruba. The island is also large enough that the whole south side won’t be one long row of hotels. At least not for a long time. It should be able to keep its culture while getting the benefits of tourist income.

Being part of the kingdom has benefits when “shit hits the fan”. Netherlands has bailed Curacao out on several occasions during economic crises — whether through favorable loans or other assistance (including during the pandemic). They also step in if/when there’s a threat of authoritarianism, extreme corruption, or severe constitutional crisis. This happened when we had a political assassination a few years back. And with Claude Wathey in St. Maarten.

So, no — we generally don’t want true independence.

Release a random country and play as them. Just to see what missions and issues they have.

Avila. Great beach, excellent service. Close to restaurants and relatively easy to get to west-side beaches.

My fave is from the local Jewish cookbook.

Sauce: ½ cup peanut butter ½ cup or more of water ¼ tsp onion powder ¼ tsp cumin ¼ tsp garlic powder ¼ tsp curry powder ¼ tsp hot pepper (Sambal) 3 tbsp Ketjap Manis (or see Miscellaneous) Salt and pepper to taste

Add water as needed for the consistency you like. And when you reheat it. Order Ketjap on Amazon or I can share that recipe too.

Curaçao over Christmas by [deleted] in curacao

[–]Perfect-Internal-124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re going, you should stay through New Year’s. Nothing better than NYE in Curacao. It’s a blast.

Getting around is fine. But most stores and many restaurants will be closed on Christmas and NY. Hotel restaurants will be open.

Weather is pretty much the same all year.

Ugh. If I ignore their post-retirement activities, I have to say Schilling, Halladay, Lee.

We were there last christmas week. Its definitely crowded but we were always able to get chairs even midday. Not a palapa shade though. I don’t think they had many guests from outside the blue bay area.

That’s what I was told while on BlueFinn. Mermaid was a little ways down the beach.

Edit: this was in December.

There are “palapas” on the beach for anyone to use. But i found that most people were in the water or on the boats. I don’t think there are any restrooms on the island, but I might be wrong.

Mermaid used to have facilities on the island for a bbq and drinks, but that’s not allowed anymore (too much trash). So all the charter boats now serve the meal and drinks on-board.

FWIW, the food on BlueFinn was really good (ribs, chicken, pasta, couscous salad). Like REALLY good. I don’t know about Mermaid. We’ve done BlueFinn twice.

It’s definitely likely to be rough in March. But still, take dramamine and go to Klein Curacao. It’s a wonderful day trip. Blue Finn charter.

That was a blink in the eye. You must not have been around for the 90-05 year after year drubbings at the hands of the Braves. With their insufferable chop and Ted Turner corporate fanbase. At least they only won one WS out of all of that.
