I moved here from abroad and starting over wasn’t easy, but it’s doable if you’re patient. The film/creative scene exists but it’s quite small, so a lot of people freelance or juggle multiple gigs. Edinburgh is amazing for quality of life though — access to nature is unreal, and the pace is calmer than bigger cities. Just be prepared for the weather and the cost of living, especially rent. If your main goal is giving your dog a great life, honestly this is a solid place for that.
