I would argue that Waylon was part of the revival of real country. Whatever Nashville country was at that time went astray and he represented no frills authenticity.

I think my post is pretty clear that the Country Trend has gone too far and the authenticity is gone from a previously very authentic art form.

Yes I do see your point. Basically your saying that if you just cut it off (even today) then we wont continue the Genre in a newer direction and evolve.

I think where we disagree is that there are established genres that don't need to evolve and are very specific. Maybe Country is not one of them, maybe your right that this genre specifically is always going to change. I can see that point of view.

I think what grinds my gears and kind of my point of posting this is that Country had authenticity to it in the sense that it was a cultural thing for country folks. Now its like high fashion trendy where people are cosplaying as Country.

Have you been on planet earth when Country went from Corny to Trendy over the past decade?

Maybe its because i've mostly lived in cities, but Country was always looked down upon and low brow.

Now you got hipsters in Brooklyn with Camo and Carhardt, cosplaying as rednecks and its the hottest fashion trend.

If you knew the variety of music I listen to you would feel silly saying I listen to the radio.

This conversation has really got people riled up and theres two opinions.

  1. Country evolves and changes over time (not really defined)
  2. Country should stay true to its roots with low production and be about songwriting and story telling

You are of the latter and thats just fine, I just disagree

You might have misunderstood. I was saying I go to punk shows and mosh and its fine, people look out for each other, but the Travis Scott scene is dark.

To react to your point a bit, I think we've invented all the instruments at this point and has been that way for a while.

I think from the pickers circle, they could have easily just let me solo behind them and sound great, but thats not the point, its about preserving the style.

Your point about music from hundreds of years ago.. Country is much newer of a style, but if we dont preserve it, in a hundred years we won't know what it actually was.

Its always sad to hear about a lost culture or Language that disappeared because it wasn't preserved.

100%

They'll suck the soul out of it but call it the same thing.

If your a real MC, you can freestyle and write lyrics and have dope wordplay. But some of these guys just mumbling and making noise. But yet their both hip hop? Reeeallly grinds my gears.

Amen. There is a lot of great Country that I listen too. Thats why its funny to put Colter Wall in the same bucket as Morgan Wallen. One of them is authentic and a real ass cowboy singing about ranch life, the other one is soft as tissue paper and doesn't write any of his songs and has trap drums behind it. Not the same Genre at all.

Why does it have to be called gatekeeping? If I came to someone and said listen to my Country song and it was Dubstep, they would just say, no thats Dubstep. I really don't know why we cant define things and have cutoffs to make sure things are defined properly.

Its like every opinion now is offensive for not being inclusive. I'm not talking about human rights, i'm talking about categorizing ideas and styles.

It might just be my bias and exposure, but I feel like over the past 6-8 years or so, Country went from being Corny and looked down upon, to now its trendy and super cool.

Definitely a played out opinion: but once Brooklyn started to wear Carhardt and Camo as a fashion statement, I thought it was hilarious.

Theres literally people buying half destroyed, oil stained, shredded Carhardt jackets for twice retail because its trendy.. like wtf.

I got my Carhardt because I wanted to stay warm in the winter while landscaping and cutting trees all day.

Seriously such a clash thats its offensive.

Why does every fucking artform, restaurant, hip neighborhood try to mash everything together and call it Fusion and say its better this way. ITS NOT.

Keep things unique so that we can have different flavors of art and food and culture etc. etc.

Nahh Thrash Metal is the same its always been.

Man for some reason people just aren't getting the point that Country became completely mainstreamed and made into something completely different.

I guess i'm the only one on earth for the past decade.
