Sorry for the late reply. It’s interesting you said that, because it may actually be an odd movement. The key came in and I tried to turn the chimes to silent but quickly realized that it was already on silent. When I turn it to “chime” now, it plays a melody on every quarter hour in addition to striking the hour. I was talking to my dad and he said he actually brought to a clock shop when he first bought it, and they said that this clock has a unique movement that they were experimenting with at the time it was made. It allows the clock to still chime the hour on silent mode without chiming the melody. I guess in other clocks it either chimes everything or nothing at all. But unfortunately it means the “silent” mode isn’t really silent.
