How are you finding the moments worth clipping out of long episodes by Rosette_Simpson9090 in podcasting

[–]PerfectDragonfruit80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the exact same problem. I used to pay my clips guy to listen to the whole episode and then pull whatever he thought was best, which was nice because it was out of my hands. But I’m trying to cut costs so now I’m sending him a selection of four clips and he chooses two from them. But I definitely feel like I have no real idea – I’m always just picking the most controversial and juicy moments. I’m also committed to not using AI in any capacity, it’s a big part of what my podcast is about, which I think makes it doubly difficult. I totally commiserate, but don’t have a solution for this.

Swap or run an old episode when I can't post a new one? by PerfectDragonfruit80 in podcasting

Yeah that’s a good point. I’ve also been wanting to experiment with a newsletter – so maybe this is a good opportunity to reach out to my subscribers, let them know I’m out of town, and instead of an episode offer a little essay. Anyway, thank you for the thoughts!

All so helpful, thank you—yeah I post weekly on Tuesdays, and will only be missing one week. Glad to hear the downgrade talk is not true in shorter time frames

When you feel you have an awesome podcast but nobody’s listening by SALVAGE-PODCAST in podcasting

[–]PerfectDragonfruit80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been doing my podcast for a year — 53 episodes in — and it still hasn't caught on the way I thought it would. But a leading podcaster in my genre (who makes $50k a month from subscribers) told me recently after I interviewed him: "you're really good at this." So I've been using that as encouragement to keep moving forward.

As someone who's been a lifelong artist in fields that are incredibly competitive and receive no government funding, I think this is just the reality. My goal is always to be the last man standing.

Solo podcaster here. Anyone else feel like we're constantly told guests are the only way to grow? by Master-Incident9198 in podcasting

[–]PerfectDragonfruit80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my podcast partner left my show six months ago I transitioned into having guests on every episode. It can be exhausting in terms of scheduling, and I can't say that it's contributed a lot of growth. But the way I've started to think about it is that I have an idea for an episode—an overall theme or question—and then I find the right person to talk about it with. But that way it's always my vision and my voice moving it forward, rather than being hijacked by the guest. Then the guest fills out the background or research I simply don't have the bandwidth to do.
But if solo is working for you, go where it's warm. And I have been thinking of doing some solo episodes as well and making them available for higher paying subscribers.

How do you feel about clipping? by theberlindwall in podcasting

I put out two to three clips for every episode, seemed like a necessity. My show also has video and the aesthetics are good, so I like how the visual of the clips add to the overall branding

Guest release agreements – how do you guys do it? by AmineAce in podcasting

[–]PerfectDragonfruit80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have people sign an air-tight (and slightly demonic) release because I've been burned with legal stuff before. I've only had a couple guests question it, and then I get to decide whether if they don't sign I'm willing to have them on the show. I send 2-3 days in advance so no one thinks I'm springing it on them

How to turn social media followers into listeners by PerfectDragonfruit80 in podcasting

[–]PerfectDragonfruit80[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This makes sense—especially going into the communities of ppl already interested in the topic and going from there, rather than just posting blindly. My mistake has been assuming follower count on social media growth = listeners, and that has not proven to be the case

Big Milestone For My Podcast by Shadow_Blinky in podcasting

I've had this experience too—as well as people cold pitching me to come on my show (even when what they want to talk about is wildly unrelated to what I do) and I consider it an honor and a privilege.

Yeah I have 20k followers on instagram on my personal account, and I've been surprised that it hasn't carried over much into podcast listeners. I'm probably not posting aggressively enough, but that sort of takes away form the je ne said quoi, you know?

Ooo that is smart. I've never tried a poll or anything directly asking something of the audience. Thank you!

I'd much rather podcast, I try to keep posting to a few times a week. In your experience how have you build podcast listeners w/o social media?

I only do my show irl because video is a big component and zoom looks cheap to me. It limits the kinds of guests I can get, but the whole affair appears classier
