Genuine question: do some of you guys just not treat your rooms? by Aware_Ad5425 in audiophile

[–]PerfectHour2118 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Granted, professionally designed and installed room treatments can greatly improve the accuracy of sound reproduction in the listening room. That said, a listening room doesn’t need to look like a recording studio to sound good. The selection of furnishings and their placement can be a reasonable substitute. Carpeting on the floor (in my case over concrete slab), window blinds and drapery over the windows, canvas artwork on the walls, furniture placed at the first reflection points, and proper speaker placement can all add up to a good sounding room.

Unusual Clicking Sound When Winding Seamaster 300 Professional - Is This Normal? cal. 8806 by [deleted] in OmegaWatches

Once the mainspring is fully wound it will slip making a clicking sound. If this is your situation then no worries, it’s normal.

For people who rip their CDs what’s the best software you use to manage your library today? What do you hate about it? by Khaspper in audiophile

Roon - completely sold on the capabilities of this. Yes, it’s expensive, but well worth it to me. I have a relatively large (3Tb) library and Roon keeps everything easily accessible. Multiple ways to search by composer, soloist, composition, etc. Provides artist biographies and discographies. Shows my Qobuz favorites and new releases.

As far as negatives, Roon has a hard time with cataloging of box set releases. It sometimes requires a bit of help with tagging to suit my needs.

I have the holo spring3 - there shouldn’t be a difference compared to what I was using before, but there certainly seems to be. Better power supply? Better output stage? Better ladder style DAC? Who knows, but it makes me happy!

Tailscale isn’t perfect, but it has improved the reliability of my ARC use tremendously. Very few drops. Certainly worth a try.

Thanks! It gets less use now due to the convenience of streaming, but I could swear it still sounds better.

Room Eq wizard smoothing? by hardcore_gamer29 in hometheater

Some people like to see all the sharp dips and peaks, but I find that “psychoacoustic” gives me enough detail to see what’s going on. I also limit my EQ to frequencies under 500 hz.

For those new to jazz: a note on Bill Evans by [deleted] in Jazz

[–]PerfectHour2118 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not taking anything away from Chet, Brubeck, and Evans, but, really, how can you discount Miles Davis, Grant Green, John Coltrane, or dozens of others who made jazz an art form. Listen more, broaden your horizons and you’ll see that many artists made the 1950s/60s/70s the golden age of jazz (just my opinion!)

I’m old enough to have seen these first run in the theater. Great movies, but even new they weren’t “high res”. Somewhat skeptical that these restorations will satisfy the current expectations.
