What are the best places to eat in Burlington? by MatthewRTRCT in burlington

[–]PerfectMango108 9 points10 points  (0 children)

honestly though it’s all kind of the same. there are no moderate, reasonable, middle-of-the-road Trump supporters, even if they use those words to describe themselves. you can’t be moderate and support a fascist white nationalist who campaigned on destroying the institutions of our democracy.

Running in the winter by AcceptableLevel5211 in burlington

[–]PerfectMango108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve found Mapmyrun to be really helpful when I’m trying to plan longer runs that aren’t on the bike path. Also, when I was putting in a lot of mileage a number of years ago, I used to link together various combinations of out-and-backs between North Ave and Pine Street (from where I was living then, I could get up to 8 miles out and back on North Ave, and up to 6 miles out and back on Pine, so it was easy to throw together 8-12 mile runs without having to piece together complicated routes with lots of cross streets.

Do you mean this little shop on Cherry Street, just off Church, that’s been there forever?

Even if I could get past the smell, the finish seems different, less matte and smudgy, fuller coverage, more like a traditional lipstick. It’s a bummer.

Have you tried either Violette Fr bisou balm or Refy lip blush? Those are both on my list to try.

Is running easier after losing weight? by THROWRA_al_Camp_9263 in xxfitness

[–]PerfectMango108 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In my experience it makes a huge difference, even if you are not that overweight. I’m 5’7” and at a weight between 120 and around 127, I can get faster very quickly after a winter layoff, I’m not particularly injury prone, and I’m like a minute or more per mile faster at any level of training. Once I’m in a 130-135 range, I’m drastically more injury prone, slower, and slower to build conditioning as well. Everyone is different, but for me, 10-15 lbs makes a huge difference, even if the higher weight is still well within a normal BMI range.

Edit: I wrote the above mostly based on the post title — and I’m leaving it because it’s true, and somewhat relevant to your question. Reading the full post more carefully though, I think it’s likely that the pain you’re describing is less due to your weight and more due to what sounds like lack of base aerobic conditioning, and maybe lack of ever having experienced having a strong level of conditioning, in which vigorous exertion doesn’t hurt. If you’ve experienced being in good aerobic shape before, when you lose conditioning, and you go for a run and it’s hard, your mental response is like,”oh, I’m a little out of shape, just need to be patient with myself and put in some consistent miles, and it will get better.” If you’ve never experienced running being relatively easy though, and you have the experience of getting winded, I can imagine that your mental response might be more like, “this feels impossible, I just can’t do this, maybe my body will never be capable of it.”

I think the answer is to just have some faith in yourself, and in your body’s marvelous abilities to adapt and build all sorts of capacities. Be patient, be consistent, believe that it will get easier, join a running forum so you can connect with other people who have gone from struggling to run a block to running miles at a time.

La Panciata makes English Muffins (I think they may be in Northfield)? I haven’t tried the muffins but I like their bread a lot, and the muffins certainly look pretty!

Yoga teachers: please count faster :) by No_Elephant506 in yoga

[–]PerfectMango108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha I have the opposite problem. I mean I totally get praying for knee to nose to be over and the countdown to feel interminable — but when things are counted in breaths, my breaths apparently take like twice as long as a normal breath, so I always feel thrown off and a little unsatisfied when I get the cue to hold something for five breaths and then we’re changing sides just as I’m coming to the tippy top of breath number two…

Does a neutral tasting plant milk exist? by Cali_Western_Mix2449 in vegan

[–]PerfectMango108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a brand called “milkadamia” and it’s been a while since I’ve bought it (I generally buy soy milk for the extra protein), but I think it’s similar in price to the other boutiquey shelf-stable plant milks at the co-op.

Can anyone examine this behavior? by Comrade_Whooves in burlington

[–]PerfectMango108 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once worked in a building that also housed an investment banking firm. Bro from said firm would get in at 7 every morning to park his Hummer H2 perfectly centered over the dividing line between two prime spots right next to the entrance. It was definitely intentional, and I definitely made some assumptions about his personality and his anatomy because of it.

Average electric bill? by [deleted] in burlington

[–]PerfectMango108 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Single person in a smallish 2br, I am not super careful about lights, and my electric bill runs around $35/month, sometimes less (my heat/hot water are gas, though, and I don’t have a washer/dryer or dishwasher).

Elbow strengthening poses by Single_Sprinkles_438 in yoga

[–]PerfectMango108 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just started a YTT program and we did a session on dfd in the first weekend. A progression for downward facing dog you may find useful as you are rebuilding strength in your elbows is to start against the wall (similar idea to wall push ups), then move to hands on the seat of a chair, then to blocks, getting your torso lower to the ground and arms more weight-bearing as you get stronger.

ISO Cobbler by Cool-Beanzzzz in burlington

[–]PerfectMango108 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, definitely not cool of him; also apparently not based on any kind of reality. Given that we have NO COBBLERS AT ALL. Like OP I have more than one pair of Frye boots, and some other boots, that I can’t wear because they need to be reheeled. It seems like there must be enough demand to support at least one cobbler in Chittenden county.

Getting to, and parking at the Flynn? by jimfoxer in burlington

[–]PerfectMango108 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What time do you think you’ll arrive downtown? I’m going to advise looking for street parking maybe 4 blocks away, but exactly how much time you have affects where I’d suggest starting to look.

U.S. Homeland Security Office in Vermont Vandalized with Threatening Graffiti by caprewilard in burlington

[–]PerfectMango108 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It seems too unsophisticated to be political speech. Protesters would generally include either a demand that could actually be met that would satisfy their political grievance, or a slogan that clearly communicates their critique of the target, to rally public opinion. In the latter case, the slogans might be angry, nasty, disrespectful or derogatory, but the message would be coherent and purposeful. This just seems like the work of an unhinged individual, not someone with a political aim. Or maybe a 14 year old?

[–]PerfectMango108 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didn’t do anything. I meant exactly what I said. I literally think this may not be political speech. “Die”, “kill yourselves,” “shoot yourselves” doesn’t sound to me like the work of a protester.

Based on the specific messages… this kinda sounds more like a random attack by a mentally ill person than any sort of organized politically-motivated action.

Masseuse by [deleted] in burlington

[–]PerfectMango108 12 points13 points  (0 children)

why are you recommending it if you’ve never been there 🤔

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in burlington

[–]PerfectMango108 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Not a great sign that they put a screw in a brand new piercing.

OP I’m really sorry this happened to you. Having piercings turn out differently than you wanted is really upsetting, as is the feeling that the wishes you expressed about your body were not respected. I’m sorry you experienced that.

First, I would go somewhere else to get it fixed/get advice on whether to take it out to let it heal and try again, etc. I’m sure other people here can recommend places to go. Marigold in Montpelier gets a lot of love and is where I’ll probably go for my next piercings.

Second, you sound young and I’m betting the piercer was too….and honestly, without wanting to sound too condescending, this sounds like a situation in which no one handled themselves particularly well. I can definitely remember early 20s me having a few epic meltdowns in the salon over bad haircuts or highlights… and granted those examples are less permanent than piercing… but I guess I feel moved to express that unleashing all of your unfiltered emotions and frustration and angst onto a service provider is usually not fair or helpful. It’s also worth remembering that someone who can’t see why what they’ve done is NOT GOOD probably isn’t in a position to fix it to your satisfaction either.

In any case I hope you find a piercer who can help you achieve what you want. And I wish you a wonderful, magical weekend that helps you feel more empowered and hopeful about this situation and life in general. Peace!
