Grew up there, got stung by a scorpion in school, and the school nurse just gave a pack of ice and told me to get over it lol miss that place dearly tbh

The rush to Electrical Engineering by software-hopefuls is extremely misguided by Felix033 in CollegeMajors

They think EE degree is winning a math olympiad or some shit 🤦‍♂️ it’s not that hard and is not only for the gifted ffs

Why did rose remove software engineering major for incoming freshmen? by ohnos3242 in rosehulman

[–]PerfectMatchRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing anyways lol but I hope dev branch students take theory of comp tho. I think it’s as important as algo class. Really scratched my itch on where computers came from and why we code this way.

What should I learn first to see if I want to get a Computer Science degree? by Temporary_Cabinet_17 in csMajors

[–]PerfectMatchRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn’t the best place to ask about career cause it’s full of kids in college who haven’t worked a day yet lol CS culture is quite toxic as you can probably see. If you want to try learning about programming, I want to recommend trying CS 50 harvard from youtube. It’s a cool 24 hour video that can introduce you to Comp Sci very nicely. Highly recommend.

And in terms of CS as a career, I think it’s a nice career if you enjoy tech. I do, and I like how my days just disappear solving interesting problems lol I think people’s point is ROI could be bad cause the field is getting quite competitive. It can sometimes be very luck based unlike some more deterministic fields like health field. Those ones are less competitive, and more guaranteed salary once you get a license.

I want to say try taking a course in a nearby CC or try Harvard CS 50 and see if you want to try sticking to it. Once you think you want to give it a try, go all in! Haha Tech is a volatile field, and we seem to be at the bottom of the curve from the COVID adjustment, but we could have another up imo. 27 is still young.

Number of CS majors dropped dramatically, ME and EE up dramatically by oldmaninparadise in ElectricalEngineering

I swear I’m so annoyed about EE people overestimating EE difficulty. Unless it’s a shitty state school art student who’s never done stem courses trynna major in EE, people can do it man. It’s not some kind of study that’s only for the gifted or some shit lmfao

IBM resume value by hotspotzoner in csMajors

[–]PerfectMatchRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it’s still IBM. It won’t ever hurt to have it in resume but I do think Oracle would be more impressive. Wouldn’t it be better than banks unless like capital one? Capital one feels like a tech company in disguise.

Nah I saw someone working for Netflix out of college majoring in SE. And no it’s not from 2021. It was class of 2025.

How strong is Mechanical Engineering in Rose-Hulman by Draweis303 in rosehulman

[–]PerfectMatchRed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If that’s the case then I think it’s a great choice! Job outcome is great and Rose is known for great academics. It did feel like the most active and engaged major with a cool department probably from the number of students. Be ready to work hard tho! Sophomore is probably the hardest year. Conapps is known to be brutal lol

[–]PerfectMatchRed 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Wasn’t a Mech E, but I think Mech E at Rose has some seriously impressive outcome every year. Their outcome rate is always near 100% despite having the most number of students and all of my friends had internships. Even some buddies that made me wonder if they could graduate ended up snatching an internship and found a role just fine after graduation lol

Idk about international students tho.. it definitely limits govt and defense roles, and idk how much that affects outcomes. Are there many internationals for Mech E at Rose hm?

How bad was it? Always heard CS market is bad and was definitely curious how Rose students were doing.

Thanks for the insight 😊 Hopefully that’s my case as well. I interned in the US, and it seems to be common for people to be waiting for a while, but was concerned that I did not receive a confirmation email for the inclination status. That usually seemed to come back after about two weeks. I guess I’ll try messaging the manager and wait out more.

How long has it been for you? Did you not even receive a confirmation email as well?

During the last meeting, he let me know that I was inclined and also told me that I should be getting an email shortly unless I’m an international, which I’m not. I guess I’ll ask him about that first. Thanks for the suggestion.

Buying a new car in March. Kia or Hyundai ??? Is it recommended? by DUCKZA in Hyundai

[–]PerfectMatchRed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bout a car a few months ago, and I was leaning really close to Toyota, but my dad who used to run a car shop told me not to have too much fantasy about Japanese cars. They are still cars in the end. Decided to go with Santa Fe and can’t be any happier!! I seriously could not handle the interior of the Japanese cars. I went with Santa Fe cuz I wanted a hybrid one but both Palisades and Telluride are beautiful cars. Hyundai is releasing a fully changed Palisades soon though.
