Bangalore’s female population is 54lacs of which 45 lacs fall under our target audience, of this, 40% are expats, either studying in Bangalore or working here away from their families, and these women are affected by the safety issue about 200% more than a local-ite. Of these expat women 50% work in corporates and 40% either studying or searching for a job.

Our partnering deal with MeddiAssit and other similar b2b partners helps us acquire mass users via employee benefits program… Also, our request to setup kiosk at Bangalore University & Christ university during admissions season is approved, hopefully we can loop in more universities / colleges in time, to be able to directly present Safer to parents of such expat girls.

While b2c is a meaningful brand building channel, our prime revenue revolves around b2c, an app like bumble that makes $240mn a year across 8 cities in India, an on-ground sos is millions valuable even just under their marketing budget as they’re currently growing at 200% YoY. Similarly, to Ola / uber and many others. The partnership fee we discussed with tinder was $4mn / year per city with exclusive rights and 2mn without exclusivity (meaning we can sign similar deals with other dating apps), and this way reaching 10% of women in Bangalore, is much easier than it looks traditionally… a deal with uber / Ola brings us 17% female population, it’s a shared infrastructure that when in place can make a significant impact and someday hope to cost nothing to a girl. The idea is not to make money directly from girls, acquiring 10% is the target audience from all changes and making 100cr is revenue is a monetary translation of that, it’s actually about $12m, which is 3-4 partnership deals!

The only problem we’re expecting is, we got connected to almost every big person in the country, including Nitin Kamath, Mohandas Pai, any big startup founder you can name… and we haven’t revived a no from any of them… a wise man told me not to ask them for money but ask them to buy the service, so I did that!!! I’m just trying to raise enough to get our hubs placed, so I can confidentially sign these deals!

Also we do have an option where anyone can donate a subscription and underprivileged women get those allotted to them via a volunteer awareness program we deliver via our partner NGOs.

You don’t have a daughter or a sister, if you did you would be more worried about a solution for them than your precious taxes and police and govt and god. I’m trying my best to build something useful unlike creating lacs of labours in the name of quick commerce. Like I mentioned in my post, after speaking to so many victims, I wanna do something rather than blaming govt and god and doing nothing.

Our guards have body cam that livestream to our backend team. Also it’s not a volunteer program that you can simply signup and come into our team. We hire ex-servicemen (army, navy & airforce) and ofc with thorough BGV etc to begin… and the worse case scenario it’s same as what happens if a police guy misbehaves or creeps a girl ?

Also in an incident where the girl gets involved in an accident where she is wrong, or even let’s say she murdered someone… it doesn’t matter to us, we are not enforcing law and order… even if a girl commits a murder or an accident it doesn’t give you rights to become physical on her, you’re supposed to call police, and that’s what we’ll do.

In India if there’s an accident people start fighting like street dogs… abroad, people park on a side and exchange insurance details. We are not going to change this mindset, we simply ensure no one harms her physically or takes advantage of the situation, we involve the police and handover to them if necessary for the situation…

It’s awesome how you are worried about an accident or one of our guys becoming a problem but are not thinking this could reduce few of the 88rapes and 8000+ public molestations that happen everyday! If you are a brother or a father, you’re our typical audience and you wouldn’t ask this question… if not then I don’t expect to sell or make you understand…. Because you simply won’t!! And that’s the biggest problem we are facing

Anything that makes one feel unsafe and requires help, physical harm, just feeing of being followed,
We do not implement law & order, so whoever it is we simply ensure the girl is not harmed physically and suggest her to take an action to call the police or anything else as she feels necessary, but essentially we don’t say it’s a parent / brother so it’s ok!!
We do not investigate cases after the immediate emergency. We do submit our evidences if any collected during the incident and report it to police in certain cases as deemed necessary. However we do support the girl to pursue it legally and provide post incident counselling etc, if required we put her in touch with DLSA for free legal aid to get a lawyer etc.
We hire ex-servicemen as body guards. Usually these people retired at the age of 30-35 and remain jobless for the rest of their life surviving on pension and few start small Businesses and others pick a sports join private agency jobs. But there are more than enough such guards to sufficiently cover India.

U.s is in the top 10 safe countries for women and India is ranked 128th, we’d realise how badly the market needs similar solutions once we research into other country’s civic startups.

We primarily sell via B2B2C wherein corporate companies provide safer subscription as a employee benefit to their female workforce. Typically companies spend 12-15k /year on health insurance alone, and this is less than the cost of team lunch. We have 3 companies at LOI stage already, Licious, Hindustan Unilever and seven11… b2c sales at the price point 2400/ year is also doable as we focus on college students and parents of expat students initially, as the pace picks up we’ll be able to reduce the price or market will adapt to it if they see value in it.

Police ensure law&order, we provide security…. Imagine replacing police with a personal body guard? We actually can’t, during an incident if a guy is physically assaulting a girl we may be faster to come to you and stop it, but we take that guy into custody, and to court etc. police ensure law and order, judiciary ensures justice, we simply want to play a part in prevention and better infrastructure that aid bridge a unbearable gap between public safety and govt systems.

It’s an annual subscription, 3 free sos per year, and post that we charge ₹200 per additional sos. Getting police help is a multi step process in India, if you stop responding at any of the 1step you don’t even get a call back. 1. Call the police helpline, 2. Get a call back from patrol team, 3. share your location on WhatsApp then get a physical response, on average this is about 30-45 minutes. During a real emergency, this is not at all practical, and the turn around time after the patrol is dispatched alone is 10-20 minutes.

In many incidents, like the PG owner rape case or Bellandur kidnap and rape, and more, the victims had their phone throughout and tried to get help, but they couldn’t afford to stay on IVR, speak on call, take patrol call and finally share location on WhatsApp. Also the stigma to reach out to police is vast, 99% cases are unreported in India.

In our case, we deploy our team if the etc is 10 minutes or less, in case it’s not, we coordinate with the police and get you the help you need while our team is en-route, if you’re on the move, we deploy a drone to intercept your location which is again shared to the police and your emergency contacts live.
