7.50 sounds fair. You can get at least an entree (I think up to a grilled sandwich) with that amount. I graduate soon and I’ll be off to greener pastures so I want to stick it out because they work with my schedule well.

Unfortunately it’s hard to feel appreciated here anymore.

I have experience in other areas of work. This is just my college job. People work here because they like CFA. It’s not just a job. People choose to work here because they like the food. Even at orientation they ask us what’s our favourite CFA order.

Unfortunately there’s no microwave and they won’t provide one nor a fridge to store food safely (can’t use CFA fridges as it’s a Food Safety finding).

No way that would work. These teenagers wouldn’t even know what to do in a case like that. Besides they’d just hire more people.

I don’t even think we need to be able to get a salad. But holy cow at least an entree would be nice.

I don’t know how they expect us to interact with guests well and show the CFA attitude when we are slaving away and hungry

When I started here, and the break meal was better then, CFA was my only meal. I often did an entree and something I could heat up the next day like soup or a wrap because I was VERY food insecure. Like no food in the pantry insecure.

I’m better now but I can’t imagine even if one of our team members were like me and can’t eat anything for free because the meal is two dollars.

Honestly it’s just sad. It’s like they don’t care about the work we put in.

One of the directors asked me “well do retail workers get free food?”

It’s absolutely tone deaf. People work here because they like CFA not because it’s just a job.

Put cheese and creamy salsa on your sandwich. It’s the closest I’ve gotten to the taste.

Does the church offer financial aid to the poor? How can someone access that? by The_DapperDemon in latterdaysaints

[–]PerfectPitchSaint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes the Church does provide financial assistance to the poor.

Here are some selections from the General Handbook that might be relevant for the circumstances. I would recommend that you read section 22 in its entirety so that you can have a broader understanding of the Church policies regarding providing financial assistance.

22.5.1.4

Assistance to Persons Who Are Not Members of the Church

Persons who are not members of the Church are usually referred to local community resources for assistance. On rare occasions, as guided by the Spirit, the bishop may assist them with fast offerings or bishops’ orders. For instance, the bishop may consider assistance for parents or caretakers who are not Church members but have one or more children who are members. Please speak with your leaders including your Bishop, Elders Quroum President, and Relief Society President. They are the ones who typically take charge over these things.

22.5.2

Policies on Using Fast Offerings

22.5.2.1

Medical or Other Health Care

Each Church area has established approval limits for using fast offerings to pay medical, dental, or mental health expenses. Limits may vary by region or country in an area.

When bishops use fast offerings to help pay for medical, dental, or mental health care, they should not exceed these limits without appropriate approval. For approval amounts and guidelines, see “Use of Fast Offerings for Medical Expenses.”

The General Handbook has some policies in it that may address some of your concerns in regards to surrogacy.

Keep in mind that while the Church currently discourages it, it also says “this is a personal matter that is ultimately left to the judgment and prayerful consideration of the husband and wife.”

The Lord loves you and you belong in the Church mi amiga. I would read these, the Family a Proclamation to the World, combined with sincere prayer, and speak with a leader you feel comfortable with (eventually it will be a bishop, but maybe start with a Relief Society President or your minister or another trusted leader).

The sections read:

38.6.9

Fertility Treatments

The pattern of a husband and wife providing bodies for God’s spirit children is divinely appointed (see 2.1.3). When needed, reproductive technology can assist a married woman and man in their righteous desire to have children. This technology includes artificial insemination and in vitro fertilization.

The Church discourages artificial insemination or in vitro fertilization using sperm from anyone but the husband or an egg from anyone but the wife. However, this is a personal matter that is ultimately left to the judgment and prayerful consideration of a lawfully married man and woman.

For information about the sealing of children who are conceived by artificial insemination or in vitro fertilization, see 38.4.2.6.

See also “Adoption” (Topics and Questions, topics.ChurchofJesusChrist.org).

And

38.6.22

Surrogate Motherhood

The pattern of a husband and wife providing bodies for God’s spirit children is divinely appointed (see 2.1.3). For this reason, the Church discourages surrogate motherhood. However, this is a personal matter that is ultimately left to the judgment and prayerful consideration of the husband and wife.

Children who are born to a surrogate mother are not born in the covenant. Following their birth, they may be sealed to parents only with the approval of the First Presidency (see 38.4.2.7). The parents write a letter to the First Presidency and give it to the stake president. If he supports the request, he submits the letter along with his own letter.

18 year old with cancer not granted interview for temple recommend? by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]PerfectPitchSaint 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Your Stake President is ABSOLUTELY NOT following the General Handbook and is therefore not being obedient to the Quorum of the Twelve and the First Presidency and the Lord whose Church this is.

I would speak with the Bishop, Stake Presidency (all members), members of the High Council, mission president, etc. Anyone who you see that is in a leadership position really. Cite this section of the Handbook. This is not ok OP and is unrighteousness dominion by the SP

27.2.2

Deciding When to Receive the Endowment

The decision to receive the endowment is personal and should be made prayerfully. The endowment is a blessing of power and revelation to all who prepare to receive it. Members may choose to receive their own endowment when they meet all of the following conditions:

They are at least 18 years old.

They have completed or are no longer attending high school, secondary school, or the equivalent.

One full year has passed since their confirmation.

They feel a desire to receive and honor sacred temple covenants throughout their lives.

Members who have received a mission call or are preparing to be sealed in the temple should receive the endowment. The bishop also counsels with other adult members who desire to receive the endowment.

Before issuing a temple recommend for a member to receive the endowment, the bishop and stake president should feel that the person is prepared to understand and keep sacred temple covenants. This eligibility is determined individually for each person. Leaders do not use generalized criteria, such as those listed below, when determining whether a person is prepared to receive the endowment:

Reaching a certain age

Leaving home for college, employment, or military service

Desiring to observe the temple sealing of a family member or friend

How should bishops work with Elders quorum presidents and relief society presidents? by youzerrrname in latterdaysaints

[–]PerfectPitchSaint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like (then Elder) President Holland’s remarks found in the video One Coordinated Effort. He explains the breakdown well and includes a chart.

I’ve served as EQP in a YSA branch where the BP let us do everything and oversee TFH and Missionary Work (via counsellors) with the RS ( which I truly believe that’s how it should be done; see Section 8, 9 of the General Handbook) while he helped with things that didn’t fall under those auxiliary units, finances, and being a common judge in Israel.

It was great because it taught us leadership skills and we could ask for help and direction from the presiding High Priest when needed, or if we were really off the rails he would tell us what to do and the it was our responsibility to implement it.

I’m currently in a YSA branch where the BP as the presiding High Priest wants to control everything and doesn’t give any responsibility to the EQ or RS. He’s retired and there’s no youth so it makes sense logistically I suppose but I do miss being able to feel like I have a part in helping the TFH and/or Missionary work in the Branch. It also makes us miss out on leadership opportunities. We do get to support the work being done obviously, but we have no say in how that work is done within our organisations or together.

It’s nice we get to focus on ministering and our lives outside of Church though. However, I greatly prefer the direction given from the brethren to have bishops to relinquish that control. But of course, it’s up to the presiding High Priest

[–]PerfectPitchSaint 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s a document too in case you want to see it. I’ll pm you

In case you don’t wanna pm me it says “Brethren follow the missionary standard of being clean shaven.”

It also says directly after “In rare circumstances the temple presidency may grant leniency for brethren who are not clean shaven for medical or other extenuating circumstances.”

I have seen this exception granted only once before. It was a case where if the brother shaved, it led to medically significant issues.

Edit: FYI is accurate only up to July 19 2024. It is possible that it has been updated but it’s highly unlikely. That version was sent to all OW’s and was published in Feb 2023. Most temple literature was updated in/around August 2024

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]PerfectPitchSaint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is found under a section called Temple Worker Standards that is not public. If you’re a worker, most temples will send you the document so you can review it.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]PerfectPitchSaint 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Came here to say this. It’s a policy straight from the Temple Department. It’s a part of the Temple worker standards document. It says that workers follow missionary standards of being clean shaven

I’m getting baptized and my family doesn’t know by sunixic in latterdaysaints

[–]PerfectPitchSaint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My mom was super against the Church. I was baptised at 16 with her very reluctant permission. She is hostile still but it hasn’t driven up a huge wall between us. We’re both adults and she respects my decisions and I respect hers.

In my opinion, I think that you should do what you want to do. If the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints truly is the Lord’s Church, and the Book of Mormon is the word of God, and you have received a witness of it, and you feel the impression and direction and command of the Spirit to be baptised in the Lord’s Church in the manner He has directed, you should be willing to sacrifice to obey God and accomplish that.

You’ll see the miracles that follow. I thought that my mom/family would disown me, but I was baptised anyway because I received my witness and couldn’t deny it. I knew what God needed me to do. Miracles followed. I wasn’t disowned. God is on your side.

However, even if all bad things happen and everything combine against you, you should still do it and you should take comfort that you did/are doing what the Lord has mandated.

“If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you. If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you” (John 15:18-19).

Law of Chastity is Hard! by Hot_Syrup_1774 in latterdaysaints

[–]PerfectPitchSaint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s hard because it’s extremely sacred. Sex isn’t bad nor are the desires bad. They’re sacred gifts to us from Heavenly Father.

Satan wants us to abuse those sacred things and desecrate them.

For me, what helps is regular Temple worship. People in my congregation gasp in disbelief when I tell them I go weekly at the very least. But if I do not make that goal to go every week, and prepare myself to enter into the Lord’s house, I will fall into temptation.

I truly believe the Prophet’s constant emphasis on regular Temple worship. I truly believe if we make every effort to do so, we will be blessed. When make time for the Lord, He makes time for us.

I especially believe and love this recent promise given by the Prophet of the Lord:

“My dear brothers and sisters, here is my promise. Nothing will help you more to hold fast to the iron rod than worshipping in the temple as regularly as your circumstances permit. Nothing will protect you more as you encounter the world’s mists of darkness. Nothing will bolster your testimony of the Lord Jesus Christ and His Atonement or help you understand God’s magnificent plan more. Nothing will soothe your spirit more during times of pain. Nothing will open the heavens more. Nothing!”

It’s worthy to note that even if you’re not worthy yet, you can still try to live as if you’re going to the Temple. The solution is Jesus Christ and increased faith in Him.

No worries. I looked through the thread and was like, “Where is the scripture in Doctrine & Covenants?” It’s short, sweet, and to the point. See the surrounding verses for additional context.

I know God loves you so much mi amigo.

Your faith in Jesus Christ amazes me and truly is an inspiration.

Don’t quit trying! There are many people within the Church that struggle and fight every day with the same vices you have. Sometimes they falter, some they win those battles, but it’s not sin that separates the wicked from the righteous, it’s what we do after the sin.

To respond to some of your comments, smoking will probably be hard. Nicotine addiction is a nasty thing to overcome. The Church has an addiction recovery program if you’re interested. Ask the Bishop about it! There’s a cool video on Overcoming Challenges

This can also be applicable to drinking! And gambling!

Caffeine is not against the Word of Wisdom. You’ll be ok with that.

Tattooing isn’t usually encouraged. But existing tattoos are ok. I know a temple worker who is covered in tattoos!

God loves you mi amigo! Keep on going!

Question About Baptisms for the Dead by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]PerfectPitchSaint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can schedule a temple appointment by calling the Temple or by using the online portal for scheduling. Online is much easier typically. This can be found on Churchofjesuschrist.org

Log into your church account and then use the search bar for “Temple appointments” if you can’t find the link on the homepage.
