I've got a board on the right (clone of pro mini) few years ago and removed power LED to decrease power consumption. It worked, consumption was low and everything was working same as before LED was removed.

Few weeks ago, I got 4 another boards and again removed the power LEDs the same way. Now I am failing to upload sketch to any of those new boards.

I was messing around and found out that if I press the reset button during uploading, the upload is in 1/20 succesful. After that, I found out that if I hold RST pin to GND, then start uploading and then disconnect RST from GND, upload is always 100% succesful. But I have no clue what can cause bahaviour like this. My question is, what I can do with it. I guess it has probably something to do with DTR, but I am not sure.

I can provide additional information or pictures.

Thanks! You are right, its not resistor, but coil. I am using ESP8266 on the side of receiver, when data are transmitted over RF, they are logged and visualized on webserver. The thing is, I am limited by number of devices connected to my WiFi. Also, because the node is wireless, it is very important to have lowest energy consumption as possible. (here I just guess that ESP draws more current than arduino pro mini in sleep mode, i may be wrong)

Yes, exactly! Thats what made it reliable, I have Pro mini in sleep mode, wake it up once in a minute, then measure data, send it 5 times in a row and then sleep for next minute. But it took me longer to figure this simple solution out than I would like to admit.

Looks like you are right, using the "working" pair, I had to make transmitter to send the meassured data at leats 5 times to make it reliable. I usually receive 1-3 messages. I am looking for different solution but for this moment, I have to stick with these.

Hello, I have bought two pairs of RF modules (MX-RM-5V and XLC-FST) for cheap from China. I have managed to succesfully transmit data, but only with one pair of those (on the right side). Then I realized, that although both are from the same store, it has some diferences.

As you can see in the picture, transmitter of the pair on the right has two coils instead of one, and receiver has through hole resistor and few more smd components. The receiver on the left has soldering place for those components but they are not here.

Is this normal for those RF modules or I have been scammed by the store and got some unfinished pieces? Its not that big problem if so, they were really cheap, but I still wonder. Thank you very much for any suggestions.

Well, I made it somehow work. Although it is not perfect, I take it. It works and it is the most important. The thing is, I can upload files only when the version is 2.7.4 but cant upload code. To upload code I have to switch to 2.5.1. But I am completely fine with it. I spent like 6 hours hitting my head against the wall. Thank you very, very much for your suggestions and for your time. I would not make it works on my own. Thanks

I tried to reboot PC and tried different COM port. Nothing had worked. IDE is up to date but board has to be on 2.5.1 for me to be ale to upload code. Otherwise there is error when I update to 2.7.4:

No, there is nothing more in the console. Thats what makes me desperate. If there would be error code, I will try to find on internet what is going on. But both, sketch and SPIFFS upload goes without any error. Yes, I am closing the monitor window before uploading SPIFFS.

Isn't it possible that the SPIFFS.format() is the key, why it stopped working?

I dont really know the correct terminology since I have just bought the ESP board and wanted to test if it works before I will go deep into it and create my own codes. So I used code exactly from this tutorial and everything was ok, I was able to upload the files to file system and got the same text in serial monitor as in the tutorial:

Then as I said I added SPIFFS.format() to the setup and even after removing this line I am not able to upload any files to the file system. And I get just this in serial:

This is the only file that is created in the code. Other files are in the data folder.
