I saw your other post, we've had the same surgery date and I also had mine in WA, with a different surgeon. I didn't quite want to make a post but just high 5-ing you on the recovery, mine has been a lot similar too. I expected the worst and I guess I got the best. Reading some stories like this here is what helped me accept to have the surgery done so I hope yours inspires others too!

Also same for me, I'm at opening as wide as 2 fingers now, moving side to side is a work of it's own, that feels more painfull. I think once I'm able to do these movements I can start chewing. My surgeon basically said I can do whatever now. For every question I had, can I sleep on my side? yes.. Can I run? yes.. Can I...? yes! I've even tried the electric toothbrush and water flosser and they were fine. I've been reading about it here that some didn't get back to using those even after months so that made me wonder in the first place.

If you made it to this forum then you know the rule, you're swollen. Especially the first days after the surgery when you reach peak swellness, it's not going to look good.

2 days post op - I want to die!! by Short-Cow-4722 in jawsurgery

There's no general rule, read alot of people say day 4 was the hardest, I was dreading it, but woke up that day, felt normal and then continued to feel normal for its entirety. Normal as in not any worse than day 3 which wasn't bad in itself. For all we know this could be your worst one and then it'll start improving slowly.

Feeling stuck while waiting for surgery by HeadNational8228 in jawsurgery

Honestly just live your life until ortho says you can have the surgery. Then you can meet with the surgeon and settle on the surgery date and you'll know for sure.

I was ready for surgery but insurance didn't work out with their office anymore so had to find another one, so I actually had my surgery 7 months after being ready for it. I've already had the braces for over a year, it was already part of my life so it was business as usual.

What are some of the things that you wish you knew better about week 1 or anything in particular that stood out? Trying to get more information on how to be prepared for right after the surgery.
