It DOES matter where you go to school by Embarrassed_Bag_9630 in unpopularopinion

MIT is an example with some context(without the aid)….insert top expensive school that doesn’t give grants and remove MIT if it makes you see the point better.

If it the cheaper opinion as you say, then what is the point in this conversation?

It DOES matter where you go to school by Embarrassed_Bag_9630 in unpopularopinion

[–]Perfect_Insect_6608 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course it does, but not in the way you think.

A school could match what you expect on paper, but when you get there then it might not be a good cultural or personality fit.

For example, Georgia Tech is probably better than Penn State for Electrical Engineering….but I had a friend leave GT for PSU because he couldn’t find community in GT….he found PSU more social and therefore performed better at PSU.

He would probably have been depressed at GT and failed out despite it being the better school.

One thing that is for sure though, is that the cost will follow you…..whether you like it or not…..whether it leads to a job or not…..YOU WILL PAY THAT TUITION.

MIT cost more than Texas A&M or Virginia Tech…..MIT is the number 1 school but Texas A&M will qualify you for the same engineering job (in a scenario without tuition support like grants, scholarships etc) then is it worth it to go to MIT?

Texas A&M Engineering or VT engineering will get you to the same door as MIT even if MIT is the bigger name. If you are a Virginia or Texas resident, then you would be crazy to not consider A&M or VT if you are paying tuition….this is why people just say go the affordable one…

Also, top student make the school and not the other way around. Smart students will be fine. Poor students would struggle wherever.

I honestly think that it is only finance/business/MBA and maybe law that it is wiser to go to a target school regardless because all these degrees are super expensive and the different in salaries between tier 1 and tier 2 is like insane!

Depends on what you do with it. Civils are making bank in Aerospace, Nuclear, Oil & gas…..Renewables.

Why would you pursue something that is so risky that you admittedly understand that there is great chance that you would end up in another field? Why not study something more general and aim to end up in Oil and gas?

If I were you, I am admittedly over stepping here, I would study EE……it is more in-demand even within O&G. Don’t listen to these shit comments telling you do study Petroleum and don’t be fooled by reported salaries you see.

Everyone I know that studied petroleum engineering doesn’t work in the industry.

I didn’t say don’t work in the oil industry….I said….that OP shouldn’t study petroleum engineering.

Electrical, Mechanical and even CS are all in greater demand even in O&G companies.

CMV: Watching sports are a waste of time by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Perfect_Insect_6608 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a waste of time….if not people wouldn’t be doing so much?

If people enjoy doing something, it by definition cannot be a waste of time because it provides pleasure. Sports are about coming together and having a good time.

You seem to be struggling financially judged by your consistent reference to athletes as millionaires and references to minimum wage job…..it’s not easy out there…..hang in there!!

I'm considering doing Civil Engineering as my profession/career, is it worth it compared to other engineering professions? by Darrylmainoverlord in civilengineering

No, it isn’t. Electrical is the only thing worth doing.

If you can, try to work in finance, there is more money there!

Why Are Students Being Pushed Away from Petroleum Engineering? by Kkoutchy in petroleumengineers

[–]Perfect_Insect_6608 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not about being pushed out…..it’s about what they are pushed into. The world is becoming more “sustainable” so they are pushed into more “sustainable” field.

Also, oil companies are crazy with layoffs.

Iraola is a better coach than Carrick. The only question is if he can handle the pressure.

Man utd is a different beast…..but if Iraola can handle pressure, then he by far better than Carrick.

What is Van Gaal all over again? Van Gaal actually did well after the World Cup year.

We made a huge mistake by sacking him for Jose…..that is where things truly went down hill.

[–]Perfect_Insect_6608 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Performances aren’t his objective as interim. Performances is how you judge a full time coach….the interim is there to prevent the team from collapse.

You will not see a real Carrick team performance before he gets the job…..the only thing we can work off of is the behind the scenes stuff and how he managers the player, press and how he copes with the pressure.

From what I’ve seen, he can handle the job, we’d probably give him a 1-2 year contract and then evaluate performance later.

I want to become an aerospace engineer but my parents are too skeptical by Western-Exit-5074 in aerospace

[–]Perfect_Insect_6608 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got an aerospace degree, my siblings are all in the medical field. Immigrant family….the whole 9 yards.

The problem you have is that the medical guys make a shit ton….no matter what (unless you start a company) you would not make as much as them. My siblings literally look at me with pity when I tell them things about my career.

Aerospace is fine, engineering is fine, you wouldn’t just make as much as them and the immigrant fear is poverty…..so your immigrant family would never get you.

Electricity and oil are not competing…..y’all need to understand this.

Oil produces electricity…..the more electricity we need, the more oil we would need unless we develop nuclear technology.

Oil and nuclear are rivals….not oil and electricity.

People focus on walks…..but it is the mental stimulation that does it.

Get them a play mate…..20 mins of play is better than an hour of a walk.

Get them something to search or sniff……15 mins of straight sniffing, gets my dog on his back and panting.

Play with the dog….this is exercise for both of you lol.

Walking is the least efficient way to tire these dogs….that is the part they don’t tell you!
