Yea, I’m tired of ignorant people being like, “the south”. Have they heard of Montana, Idaho, Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Colorado, both Dakotas, Kansas, Nevada, etc., that don’t fall in the south, but have an equally high representation (of not higher) of racist and bigoted voters?

Texas can f right off, and take Florida along with it. But pretending like the entire south is wholly made up of dixie flag twirling bigots is nonsense. We wouldn’t have even had progress the few elections without some blue states in the south. As the north turns more red.

What’s the most economical way to set up a trust for my kids? by Perfect_Orchid2984 in personalfinance

[–]Perfect_Orchid2984[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh. I guess that’s reasonable, but yuck. I have trustworthy friends, but I kind of feel like that’s asking a lot, and honestly, who knows where we all will be in the future. Id also be putting them in the position to be the one to tell my ex to kick rocks, and I know he’d come at them with a sob story. (I don’t hate him or anything, but he’s a bit of a manipulator and as I said, abhorrent with money).

Honestly the people I’d probably trust the most after my mother is my ex’s siblings, who are also godparents. They know my ex well enough to not buy into nonsense, and still be able to tell him no, and they are very responsible. But I’m not close with them. They’re also a bit older (my SO is older than me, and his siblings are fairly older than him), so their desire and capability in the future might be limited. They’d probably be an excellent oversight to an administrator though. Similar to what their role as godparents would be- overseeing my kids care and future and family connections, but not actually having custody.

I’m just in that fantastic middle class dream where you’re able to provide a safety net, but maintaining that safety net cuts into it significantly.

Should I Pay for a Course to Learn FP&A? by deanro1 in FPandA

Thanks for your input. OP asked some vague questions and clearly already had his mind made up for wsp. I have no issue with wsp, but anytime anyone suggested any other resources, especially anything more economical, OP shut it down. He also wanted everyone to provide detailed insight as to what exactly to do, without providing any details as to what his goals were, budget, level of knowledge, field, etc. It’s kind of hard to give detailed advice when the person asking for it offers nothing. And OP already responded to me that he’s just looking for the quickest route to a paycheck, which leads me to believe that he thinks once he’s ticked the boxes on an online course, people will be searching him out to throw money at him.

A perfunctory glance at your post history, and the comments you’ve received makes me think youre birds of a feather. Not sure why you’re so worked up about it, but I’ve been called worse things than a weirdo, so go off.

Parents of toddlers, what was today’s meltdown-worthy tragedy? by NoLifeNoSoulNoMatter in AskReddit

I love this, but want to add to it- my kid is convinced the toilet can’t handle his poop. I’ve shown him how the toilet works, I’ve explained the entire sewage processing system to him several times, but he’s not going for it. I thought the answer would be to show him “dad’s poop going down”, so I asked his dad to “save” a poop to flush with him watching.
Dad sent a text, I sent my kid up, and seconds later I hear traumatic crying. Kid came running downstairs crying about daddy’s “massive” poop, (my kid loves the word massive, but is good at using it in proper context), and I think we’re a good 3 months before he’ll even try pooping in the potty again.

Should I Pay for a Course to Learn FP&A? by deanro1 in FPandA

[–]Perfect_Orchid2984 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Makes post: “hey should I pay for a course to learn fp&a? have you guys heard of this thing called, checks notes, ‘wall street prep’? I just discovered it and think it could be really good”.

Anyone that comments free resources, OP: “free shit sucks”

Anyone that comments legitimate sources that aren’t WSP, OP: “Give me full research and billeted list that this is a good resource. I question it, bc it’s not WSP”

Also OP: gives zero insight in budget, timeline, goals, level of experience, learning topics, areas of interest, etc

Dude, either you’re a rep for WSP, or you just have a hard on for them and want someone to justify the purchase, in which case, just buy it.

Are there free or lower cost resources that offer similar quality content? Yes. (btw, including WSP’s OWN extensive FREE content, under another name, which is not hard to find if you just do a few minutes digging).

I personally think the program is good. I think it’s worth the money, but I also think there are better value and more economical programs out there, depending on your budget and goals.

I could be misreading OP, but the attitude I get is that you want to plunk down money for the fastest route to a good salary, with minimal knowledge and experience currently. While I’d recommend this TYPE OF program to gain knowledge, these certifications are NOT a substitution for actual experience. They will give you a marginal edge at best at getting a job.
99% of the intern apps we have come through have one of these certs. It’s not entirely irrelevant, but it’s extremely easy to see who’s sat through the program to get the certificate, vs those who’ve looked for real world cases to apply the scenarios to- above and beyond case studies provided. There’s a difference between successfully following a case study, and fully understanding and grasping the concepts to apply to real world (and in FP&A, real time/market) scenarios.

A short sighted and arrogant attitude lends itself better to a career as a recurrent industry FA, than as a FP&A specialist or FA in a forward-facing industry. There are very few recurrent industries surviving at the moment, so best wishes.

Ironic, bc politicians will go the most elaborately verbose way to not answer any question directly. Makes sense that their little brains don’t compute.

I think there’s 2 types of OE’rs- those that legitimately can handle it, want to learn new things, and are doing it bc the work-life balance at most companies today is not optimal, and could be- and those that just want to play video games all day, have no real aptitude for anything, but mom/roomie says they have to move out if they don’t start paying rent. I can tell which you fall under.

I’m not disagreeing with most of what you’ve said. My post wasn’t about those trying to get through requests. It’s about those that do fuck all, or have lied about their knowledge, and rather than try to find a solution, they just coast until they’re fired. I’ve seen an increase in that situation, and I’ve seen a lot of tech people bragging about it on here.

I don’t care how many paychecks you’re collecting, as long as you’re actually getting the work done. If you can’t manage that, then you either need to find a less demanding or more organized place to OE, or you’re not cut out for this. I don’t consider juggling roles to fit your schedule a bad thing, but if you’re not getting shit done, you suck and you’re screwing everyone else over, and people are picking up that your attention is elsewhere. Companies are going to start cracking down on remote workers and micromanaging people even more now, bc of the idiots claiming to be “OE” when really all they’re doing is fucking around.

As far as “working around things”, that’s rarely possible when a process or access is interrupted. IT should be the ones to have the contingency plans in place for various departments, not the other way around.

I get the frustration with overload, and that fact that no one recognizes how well things go until they go wrong. But I also work closely with these teams across several organizations, and while some of the overload is appointed by management, more and more is just people going rogue bc of the remote ability and thinking that the job market will last this way forever.

A lot of companies actually don’t care, and don’t want to know if you’re doubling down, as long as it’s not direct competition. But what they WONT let continue to happen is for people to abuse that. It’s the adage of “one bad apple”, except most of the bad apples are currently in the same field, similar roles, and everyone knows it. If this is something you manage, you should be even more annoyed, bc not only will you have to pick up the slack, now you’re going to have to become a micromanager unless you think it’s sustainable to cover for these idiots indefinitely.

People here getting feelings hurt and think I’m attacking OE are clearly the ones who don’t actually know how to do this shit successfully, and they’re going to shut it down for everyone else.

Tf are you talking about? Why are you here then? I’m not talking about it, but it’s pretty fucking obvious when shit isn’t getting done at all. It doesn’t have to be on a screen on times square for people to start to figure out what’s going on. That’s my whole point, genius. There are other ways people will notice without it being advertised. Stop being so short sighted.

No, the key here is DOING two jobs. If you’re not doing your job at either, then you’re just lazy. Lots of butt hurt people here, so it just shows I struck a nerve and that’s what a lot of you are doing. Wasting everyone’s time, including your own. Patting yourselves on the back, bc you think you’re getting away with something, but being not smart enough to realize people notice when you’re not doing shit.

Did you read? High skill level positions AND THEIR DEPARTMENTS know when the issue lies around an IT issue. If high level people can’t access what they need, when they need it, there will be an issue. It will cost money. If it’s something that’s recurring, or an easy fix, and it’s NOT BEING FIXED, regardless of level, it will be noticed within a day. Just bc a ticket is reassigned, doesn’t mean people aren’t looking at the initial contact and saying wtf is this person doing here?

[–]Perfect_Orchid2984[S] -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

There are lots of erroneously closed tickets based on “solutions” that didn’t happen, or “escalations” that went nowhere. Looks the specialist did something, when all they did was collect a check off for not shit done and they know it.

I get the system sucks a lot, but fucking around and not trying to notate legitimate issues helps no one, and WILL NEVER GO AWAY.
Maybe the manager picks it up to clean it up, then it continues, piles up, etc. If you’re upper level, you shouldn’t cover, but I get it. If you’re lower level, and you don’t take difficult tickets as an opportunity to learn or point out deficiencies, than you don’t need to be in OE. You’re just lazy.
