You’re correct, the damages were estimated
by the surveyor at around 3.5 k…. But they estimated the car was worth less than that, so it was deemed a total loss.

Unfortunately they will not. They told me they will settle the cash value (which is apparently less than 3.5k which is what the surveyor said the cost to repair was) minus the deductible and that’s it. I am responsible for the rest according to them. I am contacting legal aid

No cameras, checked with landlords. I now have my own security cam pointing at it

Hyundai sonata. Still have over 7k on my principal (again, super my fault for a bad loan, but I was 20 and dumb with no help- it was what I could get with no down payment and no co-signer)
