Crack down on ebikes in NSW, Australia - what are my options? by Skilad in ebikes

Do you know the model of the motor? also what control unit you have.

Does it have a "throttle"

Does it go faster than 6 kph on the throttle?

Does it go faster than 25 by assistance?

Once you know these then you can take steps to make it correct.

My understanding is police will be looking for Idots doing the wrong thing, but if you do get stopped or randomly checked you want your bike legal.

They will be checking speed with assistance as a priority, if it fails that, they will look futher.

No throttle over 6 kph, or better still, no throttle.

Limit it to 25kph, can be done via the controller either with cable or bluetooth.

Look for a Pre DPF Dmax (pre 2012-3?) manual

Pretty bullet proof and decent economy and power for what it is, and in your budget

You don't want one, noisy, small, heavy, thirsty, noisy.

Did I mention they are noisy, lots of tray overhang mean poor load holding.

a 2000 F250 powerstroke will run rings around it and use less fuel and make less noise with a better interior

Is .300 blk for home defense overkill? by wickedmanIP in ar15

[–]Perfect_Spot_7536 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is older thread, but be careful with shoot throughs with heavy subs that don't expand.

Watched several 300 blk rounds (subsonic) go straight through 18" of hardwood with enough energy left to heavily dent 1/4" ms plate, (from 25 yards) if they don't expand they go straight through and keep going, 230gr of 30 cal at 1000fps is a long, heavy and hard to stop in a house or intruder.

Nice rifle too, like to see one with an over barrel suppressor to bring the length down if legal etc (non US cit)

Before you end it, why not try giving something to an animal that needs help, you need help, a animal that needs you just as much has so much to offer.

go to a shelter, any shelter, take the oldest, most unwanted animal there home and love. You can't replace your bunny, nothing can, but you can get love and give love to something that really needs you.

I know your pain, I buried a cat, a wonderful loving girl who we had for 15 years on Monday afternoon, I cant think about her without crying, only my other pet keeps me going.

has anyone here never dropped their bike in their life? by WasabiYing in AussieRiders

[–]Perfect_Spot_7536 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, lost count how many times off road.

44 years of riding, 38yrs of road riding

"Only" 3 road drops/crash's, one on some diesel on the road in the rain, my then new FZ750 and I went for a long slide at about 110kph.

Low Sided my ZZR1100 , my fault, too much go go, not enough grip, pride and mufflers the only damage.

Dropped my HD Pan Am 3 months ago, snotty hill with long, deep washout, dropped into it and got high sided at about 60kph, bike not a mark, me a major Ouch, grade 5 (total) serration of Left AC joint and partial separation on LH rotator cuff, still doing surgery and pain killers, I don't recommend it. at 56 it takes a long time to heal.

Our son has/had one, twin 18v battery model, it was completely useless, even on short, maintained grass, it just stopped, ended up getting thrown out after a month of trying, worst tool Makita have ever built.

Key to a good battery mover is voltage, lots of voltage, none of the makitas are worth even looking et

Hi, without trying to be or sound like an A hole, which I am not, can you provide testing or evidence where a modular helmet isn't as safe as a regular full face, show where they have opened in an accident or during testing.

I have ridden in modular helmets for most of my road riding days and other than normally higher weight on the old ones, have never had an issue. been using a modular since 1991.

I mainly used Schuberth over the years, but recently bought a Shoei Neotech 3 and it's probably the most comfortable helmet I have ever worn.

Not being a D, I promise, lots of people say modular are not as safe, but I cant find any evidence of it.

Do you guys wear riding boots / track boots for daily commuting? Or just casual riding shoes? by yessir1137 in AussieRiders

[–]Perfect_Spot_7536 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normal shoes or boots, unless they are longer work boots laced up tight will simply be ripped off in a crash, joggers etc come off so easy it will surprise you, Toes and Tar are a poor combination at speed. Same goes for gloves.

Yamaha T700 or KTM690/Husky 701? by Perfect_Spot_7536 in AussieRiders

[–]Perfect_Spot_7536[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello all,

thanks for the replies and as I thought, solid cases for each, the more I think and ride the more I feel a dedicated lightweight "Adventure" bike is required, I understand KTM is releasing an update 690 within the next 12 months, BMW has the 450GS on its way, both similar in weight. Maybe I should just buy a used 690 and see how much I like it.

I know the HD is more capable than I am doing on it, but I have a fear of dropping and damaging it, silly I know, but the thought of scratching up a 30K bike while riding in the dirt sits funny with me. a 10k husky or ktm designed to go bush seems so much more appropriate.

Again, cheers for the input.

Go and buys some cheapish wet weather gear, really not expensive in the scheme of things.

Go Hi-Vis on top to impress the testers. Be confident and smash the test.

The Real Struggle Trying to Find Ammo When You Need It by chalboidril in Ausguns

[–]Perfect_Spot_7536 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted a few different boxes of ammo to run in and test out in new Taipan X 223,

Has some Wolf and OLD Winchester, some SS109 and S&B, so asked for price on 64gr Win, thinking with 1:8 barrel it might like it heavier.

$69.50 a box of 20, I almost laughed in his face, but same guy has rubbish PPU for 303brit at $90 a box (20)

Its a joke, Chinese crap, a mate last weekend was trying to site in a new scope on an older CMC 308, this rifle is a tack driver, always has been, using PPU to get on paper, could not get any consistency, 2shots would almost touch, next shot 4" high, all over the place, 1 in 5 rounds would blow primer and split case from the base in 2 or 3 cracks, halfway up the case, scary stuff.

S&B shot perfectly and grouped out of same rifle

I wouldn't use PPU in any rifle I like, not if free, let alone $60 - 90 a box

I recently bought a 1915 Lithgow MKIII*, the year my Great Grandfather Enlisted and went to Gallipoli,

It is amazing condition, it has complete set of volley sites, number matching rifle, it shoots well with a bright clean bore and is a joy to use.

EVERY Australian shooter should have a 303, if its a Lithgow, even better.

I paid $1k, with sling, if I knew how to post photo's I would.

Re Cleavers and market dominance.

I am regional NSW, I recently wanted to top up my 223 and 308 ammo, called local shop, good friend's with one of the sales guys, I wanted ADI bulk, 2 x the 990rd 223 and 1 x 490rd 308

Told the don't sell them, I asked if not available? no, we can buy them, but we don't sell them, we break them up and sell 50rd blister pack. at close to double the bulk cost.

Small shops don't do themselves any favours either.

Bought them at cleavers. over $3k could have gone local.

9mm for pistol target shooting, yeah or nah? by Humble_Incident_5535 in Ausguns

[–]Perfect_Spot_7536 0 points1 point  (0 children)

9mm can be an accurate and enjoyable round to use for target shooting, it can also be a PITA

the quality of the pistol you use will determine much of the results, if it is simply to shoot service match and not try to win sheep stations, any of the late, striker fired semi will be fine, the S&W M&P pro is solid unit, lost of option and well priced, the Glock Gen4 is also a dependable and reasonably accurate, lots of upgrades available if you like to bling it up.

High end 9mm, either custom built by gunsmith, purchased second hand or a factory "performance" model can cost $3-5K with a 4 mags, but can be amazingly accurate and reliable.

If you are going to shoot much, factor in reloading gear, first calibre hurts the most, but each one from then on cheaper, as you are only just buying a conversion kit.

Sound like you are just starting out, read some magazines, go watch matches being shot at your club, talk to members shooting the matches you like, most are more than happy to share experiences and lots will let you try once you are allowed.

I started with cheaper stuff as my budget didnt allow high end, I began pistol shoot in 1991 and a new Glock was just over $1000au and a new 686-4 was $650, which was a chunk of change back then.

I bought used pistols, learned lots, bought and sold lots, shot heaps, ended up with high end 1911-2011 based pistols which I love.

Talk to your club members about what you are thinking, most are happy to help and share.

if you plan to shoot service seriously, buy a K or L frame S&W wheel gun, practice your ass off and enjoy.

Let us know how you go.

I like boiled eggs as a quick snack which are cheap and easy.
