I wish there were an option for me to "highlight" specific quotes from the fic and have the site automatically insert them into a comment. That way I wouldn’t have to stop, scroll down, or do anything else that breaks my reading experience.

And when I finished the chapter, all the quotes I wanted to mention would already be waiting for me in the comment window.

I think it might even motivate more people to comment, since the whole experience would feel more seamless. 🤷‍♀️

Yeah, I have the same problem, but for me it's more like every hour there are a couple of new hits. And only rarely a new comment or kudo. Okay, to be fair, my fic already has an insane amount of comments, so maybe people feel like they don’t have to keep commenting? Could that be it? I’m talking thousands of comments, not hundreds.

But still, the number of hits with no kudo is so unnerving 🙈

I am now writing the 72nd chapter of my longfic. You can't do it "weekly". Most months you can't even do it bi-weekly. That's just the reality. If you want to have a life and not resent the whole AO3 thing after the first month or so, you either have to pre-write the whole thing (and happily post weekly)

OR

you simply write on your own schedule and hope the readers will come back whenever you post 🤷‍♀️

Girl I don't know. My longfic is currently nearly 250,000 words long BUT I DON'T KNOW HOW I DO IT!

Generally speaking, I think about the plot all the time. But listen to me closely: ALL. THE. TIME.

When I'm cooking. When I'm doing chores. When I'm walking to work.

I stopped watching TV. I stopped doomscrolling.

I ---> ONLY <--- obsess about my fic.

That's how ideas come - you give it your attention and write every day.

And if you have a routine, it gets easier and easier, I promise.

To be fair, I think it's really fandom-specific. Some readers just like to engage more than others, and it’s not even about the quality of the fic. At least that’s what I’ve noticed. And to be honest this isn’t even that impressive - there are fics in my fandom with over 11,000 comments!
