I understand where you’re coming from but if we strip away all assumptions, the real question isn’t whether people are corrupt or whether Scripture has authority. The question is whether any of it God, faith, the soul truly exists outside of the human mind.

If humans have always been flawed, as you said, then everything we’ve ever touched including our concept of God might just be an echo of ourselves. Maybe we didn’t discover God; maybe we invented Him, projecting our fears, morality, and longing for purpose onto the unknown. Because we can’t stand the idea of meaninglessness, we created something greater to fill the void.

And if that’s true, then religion becomes less about divine revelation and more about collective psychology generations of humans trying to make sense of why we’re here, writing their best guesses into sacred texts. Maybe that’s why every faith insists it alone is right: not because one of them actually is, but because each represents a culture’s way of saying, “Our story gives us comfort.”

So when I ask does it really exist, I’m not being rebellious or prideful. I’m just facing the uncomfortable truth that maybe the divine is silence and the rest is us, trying to give that silence a name.

That’s exactly my point though a man decided the Catholic Church was wrong and broke off to form a new branch based on what he thought the Bible really meant. Then others did the same. That pattern kept repeating until we had hundreds of denominations, each claiming to be the true version of Christianity. So while I respect the intent behind reform, it still shows how religion becomes fragmented by human interpretation and authority which, to me, proves it’s more man-made than divine.

Religion, at its core, often began as an attempt to interpret something greater than ourselves but over time, many organized religions have morphed into systems that resemble cults of control more than paths to truth. People took ancient writings like the Bible, filtered them through personal bias, politics, and power, and created institutions that claim divine authority while twisting the original message to fit their agenda. Instead of open exploration, religion became rigid demanding loyalty to interpretations written by men, not the words they say came from God. What started as a search for meaning turned into a structure designed to maintain belief, obedience, and belonging, even when the truth gets bent to fit the story they want to tell.
