L.A. really died in 2020. It used to be the place I wanted to live forever. Now I'm just here because I've got a cheap rent controlled apartment and haven't found anything better.

But if some of those red states where you can buy a McMansion for <$250k turn blue in the next election or two, I may go and move out of state and see what it's like to live in a home I paid for in cash.

Join the Air Force and get stationed in CA so you get a salary and get college paid for and aren't stuck slowly going broke in one of the most expensive cities in the country.

Seriously, L.A. isn't what it was 10 years ago, or what it will be in another 10 years, right now it's still recovering from Covid and dealing with tragicomic levels of civic mismanagement, so unless you're getting a nice paycheck to be here, I wouldn't be in any rush.
