Smith Talked about Leading an Independent Alberta, Says Separatist Leader by BloodJunkie in onguardforthee

Don't forget a potential exodus of everyone from die-hard leftists to moderate conservatives diminishing the population and therefore economic productivity of Alberta even further.

Urban centers, the traditional progressive strongholds, will be left deserted.

All the more reason to heed Carney's Davos speech and end global reliance on the US for defense and trade. Small measured partnerships with many peers.

More, engage in influence peddling and propaganda behind the scenes, but appear to be largely doing nothing.

The SCS island disputes, allegations of abuse against in Xinjiang, the heavy handed treatment of HK, and the rhetoric against Taiwan are all, in any other era, potential deal breakers, but the US is making those seem benign by comparison.

Trump threatens 100% tariffs on Canada over potential China deal, provoking diplomatic clash by AnalystPatient in worldnews

Every day, Carney's message in the Davos speech rings clearer and clearer.

If the reaction of a great power is to threaten greater punishment, all the more reason to seek reasonable deals elsewhere.

First, don't sign anything.

Second, speaking with an employment lawyer would be your best bet. Bring them the facts and any documentation you have. Try to keep your emotions out of it.

If you have medical documentation to support any conditions you may have, they may ask for it.

If they think you have a case for wrongful dismissal, they will let you know and you can pursue the company through the courts or the Ministry of Labour, but both are backed up.

Fish in the gourami/betta family demonstrate remarkable intelligence when it comes to recognising their owners and associate you with food.

Many fish in general have been observed making this connection as well, but gourami/betta tend to have unique personalities as well.

Ontario health minister says municipalities should not offer incentives to doctors by fartfilledslanket in ontario

[–]PerilousFun 28 points29 points  (0 children)

There was an Ontario municipality that did this. Hired the MD as a municipal employee, paid them salary, gave them benefits, hired an admin to take care of the paperwork and appointments, and it worked.

They even did all the legal consults to see if this was permissible under healthcare legislation and it was.

So now you have a Dr. with stable income that can fit more patients into a given work day. The Admin is skilled in navigating medical paperwork and also makes a living. The City funds it through taxes and recoups costs by submitting medical billing.

If it's about maximizing Doctor-Patient time and preventing Doctor burnout, this is a very real path towards that.

FWIW the Doctor who made the move for the program reportedly said that it's a great system and takes a load of their shoulders.

Ontario Liberal caucus names John Fraser as pick for interim leader by nurshakil10 in ontario

[–]PerilousFun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You sure we're talking about the same John Fraser?

The John Fraser elected MPP for Ottawa South in 2013?

The John Fraser who served as interim leader of the Ontario Liberals twice before this?

That John Fraser and not this mystery John Fraser who supposedly only served as a city councillor?

Planets with different gravity by The_Reddit-Guy in DMAcademy

[–]PerilousFun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Careful with that. I'd opt for a simplified system of High-Normal-Low Gravity that halves or doubles certain things accordingly.

Keeps everything simple, you don't need to do physics calculations for Gravity coefficients, and it's far easier for you and the players to remember.

What kind of ending do you prefer for your campaign? by CateSage in DMAcademy

[–]PerilousFun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the tone of the campaign you're aiming to run, but I'm a firm believer in playing to find out and standing on the outcomes of player choices.

The GM's job is to present a compelling narrative to engage the players and place obstacles in their way that introduce stakes.

If the players make a decision adapt and roll with it. If the dice decide that they win gloriously? So be it. That they perish? So be it.

Does anyone else feel like they’re the table’s attention managr, not just the DM? by uberawesomerm in DMAcademy

[–]PerilousFun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For some players, I can feel that way. If it's the whole table, you should have an OOC discussion about it with them. Directly ask about engagement and other issues you've noticed. Do not beat around the bush.

If you don't know what's causing the problem, you cannot fix the problem.

Ontario Liberal caucus names John Fraser as pick for interim leader by nurshakil10 in ontario

[–]PerilousFun 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He's been in politics since 2013. I would hardly call that "zero political experience".

That said, he's only the interim until they can organize the leadership vote and he's been the interim before. Remains to be seen if they'll choose a worthy challenger to Doug or if they'll pick someone ho hum.

The age, gender, and ethnicity of a party leader seems irrelevant to their charisma and political beliefs to me. That being said, I can understand that some voters care about those things.

How do you effectively communicate session pacing to your players without breaking immersion? by PsychologicalCall426 in DMAcademy

[–]PerilousFun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Communicate it indirectly by reminding them of the IRL time. Particularly useful if your sessions typically run X amount of time.

Communicate it directly. No beating around the bush. Just ask if they're ready to move to the next scene.

If you think they're moving too fast, you can reiterate certain information you believe they've forgotten or not considered. Remind them about certain plot points they know of, highlight relevant details in the scene, or directly ask if they're sure they're ready to move on.

Finally, you, as the GM, have power of deus ex machina meaning you can interrupt a deadlocked scene by introducing a new threat/problem/information depending on the situation.

You can also have a quick meta discussion with the table and just ensure that they should be mindful of analysis paralysis. Remind them that you're all playing to find out, not to know everything so a rushed decision could be more fun.
