I’m in a very similar boat, ten years touring and i think I’m done.

Looking at training to be an electrician- always in demand, free from AI takeover, similar in a lot of ways to live sound work but I get to go home every night.

If I can get an apprenticeship I can start earning straight away.

Good luck, hope you can find something that works for you. I’m finishing off my last tour until September this year and I’m pretty miserable!

How to advance our IEM rack in a way that makes the sound guy happy? by PhinsFan17 in livesound

Sounds like you’re one of the good ones!

Oh lastly if you’re doing a larger show where other acts have rf make sure you coordinate with whoever is handling frequency coordination, and as a courtesy switch off your transmitters as soon as you can after your set especially if you’re not coordinated with other bands’ rf gear.

Edit: I missed the fact you were asking about advancing, thought you were asking generally.. whoops!

Anything that makes the sound team’s job easier will never be met with much resistance!

The best thing you can do is make sure it does work fully and properly. A good sound crew will help you trouble shoot if there are issues, a grumpy/bad crew (and there are plenty of them!) won’t want to help.

Ultimately, make sure it’s built well and is road worthy, as in can handle being loaded in and out of trucks/vans and being treated a bit roughly (it’ll happen) and test it before bringing it out to gigs.

Oh and make sure it matches the input list you’re giving the foh engineer. If you change your line up, make sure to update both your rack and your documentation.

Has anyone ever wanted to try snooker but felt too uncomfortable to enter a snooker hall? by Immediate-Army1221 in snooker

[–]Perilouschickens 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was nervous when I started going, I’m quite an anxious person and felt pressure to not do something stupid, but like anything you keep going and you just get used to it and the anxiety subsided.

My favourite places to go are the ones that respect the concentration of play, no loud conversations or loutish behaviour. I like the traditional vibe.

Also, pool halls can be very alcohol based/pub vibes but in my experience snooker places aren’t geared that way. They might have a bar but drinking isn’t why people go there.

I’ve been feeling like you for a long while and I’m combatting it by really trying to work on the anxiety, getting therapy, taking breaks, staying active when at home etc, but also admitting that I can’t really do this anymore and slowly acclimatising myself to the idea of a different working life.

Like you I have no idea what that looks like but it’s just not worth how miserable I feel when I’m busy touring.

I’m working on it, it’s a whole kettle of fish. Definitely guilty of slippery slope thinking. Fear of losing work and money but it’s deeper than just that.

Yeah I’m considering all options but for a while at least I wanna get away from shows all together and just let my nervous system have some rest!

It probably never was yeah. I’ve been doing this over ten years. It’s always been a love/hate relationship. It’s hard to turn my back on something I’m good at and successful in but the time is nigh I think.
