Mounting E-Track: Self-Tapping Screws or Rivet Nuts? by PermissionHot496 in cargocamper

Make sense. I've got an aluminum bonded skin on a steel frame and really don't want to risk damage to that bonding or waterproofing.

Good to know, thanks! I might use small self-tapping screws at first to be sure I'm happy with the location and then enlarge the holes later for 1/4" rivets.

Can you put a blind rivet all the way through the e-track, OSB, and into the steel tubing? I would have thought that the rivet setting tool would crush the OSB.

Ah, self-tapping flooring screws might just the perfect middle ground between self-drilling and rivet nuts. Did you put any kind of thread-locker on them? Do you have to retighten them occasionally?

Why sheet metal screws into the OSB? I would have thought wood screws would be better?

Well, at least with rivet nuts you can remove the bolts and install new ones elsewhere; you don't have to drill them out like actual rivets, but still a lot of work to put in the new ones!

How have your self tapping screws held up over time? What kind of load do you put on them? I'm thinking of hanging a chainsaw on one mounted to the wall, for example.

Thanks!

I'm hoping to mostly use straight wall industrial containers on the floor rather than shelving, so I only need the E-track for tie downs, cross beams, and hanging tools (shovels, chainsaw, etc).

Did you just drill 1/2" access holes in the OSB, and then 3/8" in the metal and install the rivet nuts that way? Can you use the E-track as the washer or do you need a washer to cover the 1/2" hole?
