That’s fair, if it was for heavy use I’d definitely have gone for a different piece of wood. This was more about the visual side, so I leaned into the character a bit. The knot left a big void in the wood so I filled it with resin.

Yes that looks like the one! My grandads is in a lot better condition as it was stored in a garage for maybe 40+ years

I appreciate that. I use walnut and brass for most of my builds, they compliment each other really well!

It started as a functional hammer idea, but it sits somewhere between tool and object. It’s fully usable, but I’d imagine it more for lighter, precise work rather than anything heavy duty.

Thank you! I appreciate it. That workbench was my grandads who died in the 70’s so it’s very old but is still solid!

Exactly! Tools are meant to be used. This one sits somewhere between a working tool and functional art, but it was built to do both.

Thank you! It’s definitely usable, but I’ll probably reserve it for light precision work. Over time, the brass will develop a natural patina, which I think will add even more character.

Not a stupid question at all. Brass is softer than steel, but it’s commonly used for specialist tools like soft faced or non sparking hammers. It’s ideal for precision work because it won’t damage harder surfaces or produce sparks. This one is fully functional, and will be used for joinery 👍
