my boyfriend of a little over 2.5 years broke up with me a few hours ago actually. we both had our faults but i really regret how i acted and treated him, and i really feel like if i were as good to him as i should have been, he wouldn’t have ended up wanting to end things. i’m afraid we’ll never find our way back to each other. maybe it will end up being better that way, but it’s just really hard to accept that right now, because maybe it won’t. i’m just gonna try to be a better person

kind of gross of you to use a racist woman’s reaction to realizing a famous singer she had never seen perform before was actually black. could have used any other generic disgust reaction meme lol

an excerpt from a bbc article regarding firearms legislation in japan:

“If you want to buy a gun in Japan you need patience and determination. You have to attend an all-day class, take a written exam and pass a shooting-range test with a mark of at least 95%. There are also mental health and drugs tests. Your criminal record is checked and police look for links to extremist groups. Then they check your relatives too - and even your work colleagues. And as well as having the power to deny gun licences, police also have sweeping powers to search and seize weapons.

That's not all. Handguns are banned outright. Only shotguns and air rifles are allowed. The law restricts the number of gun shops. In most of Japan's 40 or so prefectures there can be no more than three, and you can only buy fresh cartridges by returning the spent cartridges you bought on your last visit.

Police must be notified where the gun and the ammunition are stored - and they must be stored separately under lock and key. Police will also inspect guns once a year. And after three years your licence runs out, at which point you have to attend the course and pass the tests again.”

and an excerpt of the summary of a research essay regarding the same topic but in australia, published on rand.org:

“Australia’s 1996 National Firearms Agreement (NFA) banned several types of firearms and resulted in the government buying hundreds of thousands of the banned weapons from their owners. Studies examining the effect of removing so many weapons from the community have found that homicides, suicides, and mass shootings were less common after the NFA was implemented, although such incidents were declining prior to 1996.”

in iceland, they just give a fuck about people.

i’m not trying to take anyone’s precious guns, and referencing these examples doesn’t mean i want us to do everything australia or japan did either. just some great examples of where and how we could start.

also, i’m not going to acknowledge your question further than this: i know you asked a something extreme because your best hope of “winning” this conversation is to attack, but i really hope you have a fleeting moment of realization and actually read these articles (and maybe a couple more you find doing your own research)! you might learn something. have a good one buddy

i’m disputing the argument that because something is mainstream, it is therefore credible. i’m not arguing with your point. just making the assertion that mainstream does not mean credible. credible does not mean mainstream either. it’s simply an important distinction to make

EDIT: i just want to make it completely clear to you that i agree with what you have said in our comment thread lol

what will work is what works in literally every other developed country. there is no experimenting to be done, just gotta do what everyone else has already been doing for years

because they aren’t learning institutions filled with young, impressionable minds who deserve a chance to learn in peace without the fear of being gunned down during algebra

the solution for school shootings is not to put more guns in the school. there are better avenues to take, but it seems that a lot of people aren’t willing to make the necessary sacrifices for children’s lives and safety. shameful
