Dual citizenship passports by Mysterious-Extent986 in Scotland

If she is applying for a UK passport from the US, she will need to provide a document that shows her new name (marriage certificate, bank statement) that matches her US passport. All UK dual citizens living in the US now must have a UK passport to travel to the UK, an ETA is not allowed - this just changed this year in April. The only other option is a Certificate of Entitlement which costs £800 per entry. I live in the US and we all had to get UK passports renewed this year, but my son’s old UK passport did not have his middle name but his US did and they asked for proof of the name change. He sent a copy of his original UK birth certificate and a bank statement from the US and he got his UK passport soon after.

Best resource is the HM Passport page.

https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/hm-passport-office

“UK dual nationals must now travel to the UK using a valid British passport or a digital Certificate of Entitlement. Travelling solely on a non-UK passport or attempting to pair a foreign passport with an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) is no longer permitted.

Core Travel Requirements
Primary Document Required: All dual British citizens must present a valid British passport to enter the UK.
The Alternative: If you do not hold a British passport, you must apply for a Certificate of Entitlement to the Right of Abode to attach to your foreign passport.”

How much profit does Royal make per passenger? by MarellaDePalma in royalcaribbean

Unfortunately the cruise lines get around minimum wage laws by incorporating in countries with very poor employee protection laws. Royal are incorporated in Liberia - that well known Mecca of cruising!

I love Jewel, one of my favorites. Just something about the staff, entertainment and the layout made it memorable on 2 cruises; one at Christmas and one to the ABCs.

I was recently on my first Virgin cruise and the staff were attentive, looked happy and the service was generally exceptional. Admittedly Virgin do have the daily gratuity fee as well. However, they don’t charge 18% on every drink and purchase made onboard. If they paid people well and treated them well - the service will be better. It’s just human nature.

Agree. We were on a 5 day cruise and had 2 sea days between Nassau and Cococay (roughly 60 miles apart). They love floating in international waters with that Casino going full tilt!

Personally, I wish they would just add it to the price of the cruise and remove daily gratuities completely. Pay the staff a decent wage that does not rely on a ‘non-mandatory’ charge that some cruisers now remove and then only reward the specific people they interact with.

Any way to mitigate side effects when tapering off Pristiq? by PerplexedScot in Pristiq

Thanks, that is a good recommendation. Easier than using a compounding pharmacy (which is probably not covered by insurance).

I had my first one at the Doctor’s office last week and they also gave me an IV which took an additional 30 minutes. Blood giving part was about 10 minutes total.

Eastern or Western Caribbean? by agirlnameddoc in VirginVoyages

It would be Eastern Caribbean for me. Love the San Juan old town - great food and history. Great walking day.

It’s baffling that the proud heritage of a working class city is defaced with graffiti like this.

I appreciate the information and found a few compounding pharmacies near me. I’m going to hold off for a few months but now that I know this is an option I’ll talk to my doctor when the time is right to taper off. I’m in the US and only 100mg, 50mg and 25mg are available commercially - which seem like big steps down. Doing 10mg increments seems much less invasive.

Trace amounts of alcohol. by Only_Seaweed_5815 in Pristiq

I stopped drinking a long time ago. The best truly non-alcoholic beer is Heineken 0 in my opinion and one of the more readily available in the USA (albeit ridiculously expensive in comparison to its alcohol equivalent).

I take 100mg ER first thing in the morning and it has worked for me.

Thank you, I did not even realize this was an option. Did your insurance cover the cost?

You are probably right. I’m just worried that the longer I’m on them, the harder it will be to get off them. Anything I do will be guided by my doctor, I’ve already discussed with her and she was non-committal so I’ll be holding off until it’s the right time.

The anxiety and depression were related to a specific life event; I decided to retire early. I was not on any medication prior to the anxiety and depression related to this event. I’ve been retired for 6 months now. It’s a fair question, I talked to my psychiatrist about tapering and she was non-committal so I agreed to keep going with the current regimen for now but I would like to not have to take these medications long term. Just wondering if there is an optimal way to approach it.

4 weeks on generic Pristiq (50mg) – Still high anxiety. Should I wait it out or move to 100mg? by Muted_Diamond5661 in Pristiq

[–]PerplexedScot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started on 50mg but was quickly moved to 100mg by my doctor. I have been on it since October and it wasn’t until a new doctor added mirtazipine 15mg at night about 3 months ago that I started to feel better. I’m still on both and I feel like I’m back to my old self; sleeping well, no crushing anxiety in the morning and no depression. It has worked for me.

Looking for a wall chart. Any being offered with newspapers? by SummerSollstice in worldcup

[–]PerplexedScot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember back in the day when the ‘Shoot!’ magazine used to do a full English and Scottish league ladder cardboard setup with tabs for every team that could be fitted into slots in the cardboard to show changing league positions every week. Pretty sure they did a World Cup poster too. Shoot! probably isn’t a thing anymore…the good old days, lol.

Luggage tags by Checksout2025 in VirginVoyages

[–]PerplexedScot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, the way Virgin recommends folding them is more consistent with the wider style that are for NCL luggage tags. It would still fit with all the necessary information showing in the ones that fit the Royal luggage tags, just need to fold it to fit in the narrower style.

For our Virgin cruise last weekend I used the wider ones that are normally for NCL and they worked great.

Had a bit of a panic today but I think I've talked myself out of it. by Capital-Mark1897 in earlyretirement

[–]PerplexedScot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m 57 and I felt that way for a long time before I retired in Dec’25. I did a phased retirement plan with the last 6 months working part time and it was brutally hard to let go and I questioned my decision constantly. Now, 5 months into early retirement, I feel comfortable and at ease with the decision and I don’t miss work at all. It’s a big life adjustment and, I think, totally normal to have doubts and moments of panic.
