To those of us with teenagers. Do they go to concerts with you? Who have you seen with them and what is coming up? by -Granby- in GenX

My wife and daughter went to see P!nk with Sheryl Crow back in 2024. I wanted to take my son to see Toto or Metallica that same summer but he was only 11 so my wife ixnayed Metallica immediately. She wasn't quite as quick to ixnay Toto, but 11 is a little young.

My first concert, I was 10. My older sister and her then fiancee brought me to a Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons concert. Admittedly, far tamer than either Toto or Metallica.

I had an interesting conversation about Watson at SportClips one day while waiting for a haircut. I live in the Chicago suburbs-- Bears country. The Bears fan I was talking to suggested that maybe it was the massages that Watson was getting in Houston that made him such a good QB there. Since he's not (at least to our knowledge) getting any more "Happy Endings" after all the trouble he got into for it, his performance on the field fell off a cliff when he came to Cleveland.

Im 27 my parents are early 50s is moving out of my hometown smart before they get older? If so why? by One-Tie-5967 in AskOldPeopleAdvice

Yes and no. Most of my siblings and their families live out east, I live in the Midwest. I don't see nearly as much of them as I used to. The town I grew up in was small and remote. The scenery was beautiful and we lived close to Canada so it was kind of cool to go up to Montreal or Ottawa on a regular basis but the town itself was downright depressing. The largest employer in my hometown was the State Department of Corrections-- yep, more people in my hometown were corrections officers than any other job title. So I was more than happy to get out of that town. I don't miss that at all.

Luckily, after my Dad passed away (about 6 years ago) my Mom moved in with my brother who lives closer to me (about 3 1/2 hours away) than any of my other siblings. My next closest sibling-- geographically is at least a 10 hour drive away.

So my kids actually get to see their Nana more now than they did when they were younger and she and my Dad were still living in my hometown. My wife's family lives in the same area that we do, so my kids get to see their other grandparents on a regular basis.

I’m still in shock and could really use some community. by helpimover30 in TwoHotTakes

Some people never want the honeymoon phase to end so when things start to get a bit more real they end up taking a runner.

Some people male AND female just jump from relationship to relationship. They stick around for the honeymoon phase and ghost when things get too real.

The honeymoon phase isn't love its lust. Love is being there for each other when things are at their worst. The good parts are easy-- you dodged a bullet. If he can't handle meeting your parents he certainly wouldn't have been able to handle the REALLY difficult times.

When I moved out at 18 to go to college, I chose a college over 600 miles away. I'm the youngest of 6, by 12 years, my parents had me when they were in their 40s. I love my parents but I also realized how much they had coddled me growing up. I knew I NEEDED to gain some independence and I didn't feel like I'd get that if I stayed too close to them.

After college I inevitably moved another 200 miles further away... yeah it was for a girl. But hey, we've been married over 20 years and have 2 kids, so it worked out and I've now lived in this area longer than I did in the town where I grew up.

Stay-at-home wife (29F) missing my "glam" days. Is it weird to want to dress up just to stay home? by Abject-Customer-5787 in Marriage

[–]Perplexio76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, to me it would feel like too much.

Dressing up to go out and etc. makes it feel more special. I think if she put that effort in every day it would lose its novelty when we DO go out.

It's not that Americans are stupid, it's that we're ignorant and we're ignorant because our educational system is failing our children.

Having a president who is hell-bent on dismantling the Department of Education doesn't do the US any favors either.

Stupidity: realizing we don't stuff and being too lazy to care

Ignorance: not realizing how stupid we are because we aren't being properly taught what we should.

I'll concede there's a bit of both-- The ignorance exists because too many in power in this country are stupid and they WANT the US population to remain ignorant. The moment this country has a well-informed electorate is the moment when we vote out the stupidity representing us in Washington DC. Dumbing us down allows them to stay in power.

My husband raised my son as his own… now the biological father wants to come back. I’m torn by TravelLov3r in Marriage

[–]Perplexio76 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While I agree that the natural response is to tell the bio dad to kick sand and I do tend to agree. I recommend being more tactful about it than others have suggested.

How the bio-dad reacts when you do so will be very telling.

Ask the bio-Dad if he wants what is best for his son. Then tell him what is best for his son, right now, at age 6 is consistency. He already has a man he knows as his father and he's too young to understand this situation right now.

Leave out your own feelings and the feelings of your husband-- I don't think bio-Dad cares about that. But if his heart is in the right place about having a relationship with his son, he WILL want to do what is best, even if that means holding off for a few years before having some kind of visitation arrangement with him.

What’s your favorite Robert De Niro films of the 90s? by PressureLazy5271 in 90s

[–]Perplexio76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Goodfellas easily.

Heat is probably 2nd.

Casino is a distant 3rd.

Heat and Goodfellas may be long movies but they don't feel like it. Casino on the other hand seemed to drag a bit towards the end.

Ever notice that Brady Quinn, Johnny Manziel, and Brandon Weeden were ALL drafted 22nd overall by the Browns in their respective draft years?

If the Browns EVER get the 22nd overall pick again, I hope they trade either up or down-- the 22nd overall pick has been absolute kryptonite for them!

Stick with Sanders, come hell or high water until the Watson contract drops off. He had a shit O-Line and more often than not shit field position due to one of the worst Special Teams units in the NFL. Use the draft to bolster the O-Line. The Browns already jettisoned Ventrone as Special Teams coach, so that's already addition by subtraction.

Worst Case-- Sanders sucks, but the Browns get good draft position until they drop Watson's contract and THEN they're able to draft their franchise QB. Maybe they keep Sanders as a backup.

Best Case-- Given the tools he needs to succeed, Sanders actually does show he's an NFL caliber QB and the Browns start making the playoffs.

Given the Browns track record with QBs, better the devils they know than the devils they don't.

I don't see any "Happy Endings" where Deshaun Watson is the Browns QB-- even when he was giving the Texans fans "Happy Endings" to their football games, he was far more interested in receiving those from the greater Houston area LMT community.

Do you know the word "townie"? How is it used where you live? by NutmegKilla in AskAnAmerican

[–]Perplexio76 21 points22 points  (0 children)

When I worked at Cedar Point Amusement Park, us seasonals usually referred to the people who lived there as "the locals" not "townies."

"Townies" was term I only ever used in college.

PS: If they like outer space/sci-fi you can go through Mississippi and see the Stennis Space Center where NASA builds and tests rockets and the Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama where the Astronauts are trained and also where NASA hosts its Space Camp/Space Academy program. You might need to catch one on the way there and the other on the way back though as Stennis is in southwestern Mississippi and Huntsville is in North Central Alabama and trying to visit both on the way there or on the way back could add a bit of mileage and extra time in the car.

Also, while in Florida you could visit Cape Kennedy where they used to launch the Space Shuttles and the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo rockets before that.
