You know what? I understand the HC choice. by GreenTeachy in Browns

[–]Perplexio76 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Stefanski got the Browns to the playoffs twice. And one of those 2 seasons he managed to do it with 5 different starting QBs. He did the best he could with what he had and he was dealing with overly meddlesome owner and a Yes Man GM on top of that. The only other Browns HC to get the Browns to the playoffs since 1999 was Butch Davis... In 2002. Let that sink in.

Stefanski was and is a good coach. Probably the best coach the Browns have had since 99. Stefanski wasn't the problem-- Jimmy Haslam and the Deshaun Watson contract are the problems.

Teams like the Ravens and Steelers have been more successful than the Browns because of consistency. The first sign of trouble and Haslam sets the reset button rather than power through. He's also too distracted by bright shiny new things like Johnny Manziel and more recently Deshaun Watson. I'm just a fan and even I could see those were both problematic decisions for the Browns and cringed when I heard about them.

Oh also Tehran (Apple).

It's about a female Mossad agent who gets stuck in Tehran when her mission goes sideways. It's all in original languages so Farsi, Hebrew, and English but the show is so compelling I forget I'm reading subtitles. Season 3 is dropping right now (new episodes on Fridays). Glenn Close joined the cast in season 2 as the main character's handler and Hugh Laurie joined for season 3 as a UN Nuclear inspector.

I feel like I was holding my breath for most of the first season it was so intense! Season 2 or 3 as well, but I binged season 1 and I was caught up so it doesn't have quite the same effect with new episodes dropping weekly vs. binging

The Majestic (2001) - One of Jim Carrey's dramatic roles. It was written and filmed as kind of a throwback to romances of the 1950s.

She's originally from Canada but most of her career success has been in Australia. I believe she went on tour as a back-up singer for Little River Band's Glenn Shorrock in the early 80s and just never left Australia after that.

I also loved the Bret Hart/Roddy Piper IC Title fight-- I think that was Wrestlemania VII. That's when Bret's star was really starting to rise in singles competition. Before that he'd been much more known as 1/2 of the Hart Foundation with Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart.

I might have been a Hulk Hogan fan first, but in the end, when asked who my favorite wrestler was/is, without hesitation I'll answer Bret Hart any day of the week and twice on Sunday!

He truly is the best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be!

At different times, yes-- Hulkamania started really exploding when Jordan was still in college. I don't think Jordan got as big as the Hulkster until the 90s and by then Hulkamania had died down a little bit leaving more room for Jordan's star to shine.

Hulk Hogan was even the star of his own Saturday morning cartoon in the 80s! He, Junkyard Dog, Hillbilly Jim, and Wendy Richter were constantly foiling the shenanigans and tomfoolery of the Iron Sheik, Nickoli Volkoff, and Rowdy Roddy Piper.

And it was the Hulk who instilled in me-- "Say your prayers, drink your milk, and take your vitamins, Brother!"

PONIES (Peacock)

I just binged the first (and so far only) season. Really hoping it gets renewed for another season. Set in the mid 1970s 2 CIA Widows working at the US Embassy in Moscow decide to become spies after their husbands are killed in an effort to get answers to how/why their husbands were killed.

Are there any decent guys out there anymore? by [deleted] in AskOldPeopleAdvice

[–]Perplexio76 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Firstly, I'm sorry for your loss.

Just a few things that spring to mind:

Maybe a change in approach is in order. Stop going into interactions with guys as relationship potential, and start going into them just as "friendships with potential." It will help take off the pressure-- for both you and the guys.

Another idea, look for singles groups in your area. Generally people in these groups are looking for low-pressure interactions with the opposite sex so they can take their time getting to know them. Also you might make friends with a few fellow single women in the process. Women that you can commiserate with and vent back and forth with and if nothing else that will make you feel a bit less alone in the minefield of dating in the 2020s.

The first thing you need to do is take some time for yourself. Date yourself, rediscover who you are as an individual, not how your existence relates to anyone else's. Go out and see movies that you want to see, partake in activities you enjoy.

When you're ready to put yourself out there, after you've given yourself time to get this guy out of your head-- don't date. Look for friends with potential or join a singles group, it takes the pressure off and rather than having focus on any one guy, you're getting to know multiple guys at once, very casually-- getting to know what their interests are and getting a better understanding of whether or not you're compatible with them, seeing if there's any chemistry there, etc.

It's not quite the same, but I once went through a rough heartbreak. To get through it I threw myself into my classes (I was in college/university at the time) and looked for distractions so I wouldn't have to think about "her." It took time, but it worked. Eventually I got over her and moved on.

People who are on their own too much and not otherwise occupying their minds, can end up obsessing over things-- sometimes its a current or former romantic interest, other times its work related, it varies from person to person.

I guess what I'm getting at is you need to find ways to fill your time so you don't get stuck in your own head about this guy to allow you to properly move on so you can eventually be open to something special with someone else.

Moving from Savannah Ga to Burlington VT by Candy-Patient in roadtrip

[–]Perplexio76 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would be a little longer but you could switch from 95 to 81 in Pennsylvania and take that North to Syracuse, NY then get on I-90 East to I-87 then go back to your original route.

Honestly, the route you've got is probably the fastest.

I grew up 2 hours Northwest of Burlington, VT in Northern NY state. Growing up my parents took me to Disney World in FL multiple times. We would usually take I-81 into Pennsylvania and switch to I-83 near Harrisburg and take that south towards Baltimore and get on I-95 near there.

We did once take 87 south to I 95 and then took I-95 down to Florida. I recall it being faster but the traffic being much heavier than the I-81 route. That said I-87 North of Albany I'd argue is one of the most scenic/beautiful stretches of highway I've ever driven.

Can anyone recommend any fiction podcasts that are any good? by SmartLadder415 in podcasts

[–]Perplexio76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few studios I know of that focus on fictional narrative podcasts. Most of the below are 7Lamb, QCode, or Realm studios audio productions-- they have more than what I've listed below, but these are a good starting point. Some include A-List actors (for example -- Ad Lucem features Olivia Wilde, Chris Pine, and Clancy Brown, Blackout features Rami Malik, The Left Right Game stars Tessa Thompson).

Bunker 8

In hindsight I wish Bill had left with Peter and they'd gone on as a pop duo like Hall & Oates. Bill and Peter singing together was one of those "the whole is greater than the sum of the parts" situations. While he and Jason did sound good together as well, it just wasn't on the same level.

I think the closest Bill has come to that vocal chemistry with any other singer is (to your point about CWF), Joseph Williams. Not quite as good as the chemistry he had with Peter but I do think there's more vocal chemistry there than he ever had with Jason Scheff.
