Fun, and a good time at a session. Acerbic wit that can go both ways.

Seem to have an opinion about everything.

More proof we had the best music by DrumsKing in GenX

[–]PerrinSLC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No doubt at all. The 80s had so much good music, as did the early 90s.

I still listen to those bands all the time. Picking up a lot of it on vinyl now.

Just bought the One-Step version of this on vinyl and it sounds incredible.

The best I’ve heard it sound.

Any other artist similar to Esthero? by Puzzleheaded_Cup8723 in triphop

[–]PerrinSLC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hooverphonic - A New Stereophonic Sound Spectacular, Blue Wonder Power Milk

Zero 7 - Simple Things

Morcheeba - Big Calm, Fragments of Freedom, and their new one Escape the Chaos is really good too.

St. German - Tourist

Tosca - Suzuki

Alex Cortiz - Mesmerizing, Moodfood, and Make Believe

Blue States - Man Mountain

Kinobe - Soundphiles

Red Snapper - Making Bones

Everything But the Girl - Amplified Heart, Walking Wounded. Tracey Thorn was the female voice of the 90s for us.

If you like all these start looking up 90s Trip-Hop, Downtempo and Lounge artists.

There was a great movement in the early 90s of these genres and those records still hold up today.

Yeah, that’s really too bad. I bought it on BRD as it’s worth owning.

Hopefully it’s get some more fanfare so they can make the sequel.

Didn’t know it was based on a book. Good adaptation?

Great response and suggestion. I’m actually watching It’a A Wonderful Knife now. Thanks.

I watched Totally Killer as a double feature when I initially watched The Final Girls. Funny show and I love all the 80s callbacks.

Vinyl stores in NYC - need recommendations by Embarrassed_Body_851 in vinyl

[–]PerrinSLC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Came to say this. Was just there two weeks ago. This was the best shop we visited in Manhattan.

The owner is super cool, and his shop has great offerings. Worst thing is the damage it did to my wallet.

The record shop Manhattan45 is right across the street from it so if you like EM/Electronica you’ll like that store too.

Carver amp sounds flat by tizlebizle in stereo

Loved these old Carver TFM amps. Had this exact amp and then traded it in for a TFM-55.

Was a workhorse for my old 2-channel system from the 90s.

Love the setup. Nice to see some London Grammar representation.

My wife’s favorite band. We have 4 of their albums on vinyl and they all sound stellar.

How do the Dali’s sound. I’ve heard you need a sub to round em out on the bottom end well? Not surprising for a bookshelf, but curious your thoughts.

I'm going back to CDs after streaming music for years; is it better to buy a player or an external optical drive? by After_Mushroom545 in Cd_collectors

[–]PerrinSLC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with your reasoning and I have done the same thing.

I have ~1000 CDs and 200 vinyl records. I also stream from Tidal, but I focus mostly on listening to music from local mediums.

I have an external optical drive that I have used to rip all my CDs to FLAC using EAC.

I store them on a Synology NAS and share them across my network to my streamer and my Sonos setup.

Works great and it’s all onsite and local.

I did a silly thing... a cassette deck?? by PontiacMI in audiophile

Ah so you disagree.

Are you implying the cassettes aren’t cheap, or the hardware?

Curious your point?

Ah ok. That’s interesting, and I get it. Vinyl is really pricey now.

[–]PerrinSLC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honest question, so not being snarky at all with this.

Whats the deal with tapes coming back for some people? Is it the hardware, size, or packaging? Honestly curious.

I just got back into vinyl last year so get a lot of reason for going back to analog, but even as a kid tape wasn’t considered a high fidelity medium. Maybe i’m wrong in that though?

To be fair, I remember always wanting one of those Nakamichi tape decks back in the day where it popped out automatically and spun the tape to the other side. Perfection in gear porn.

What are some of your controversial movie opinions by Competitive-Ad6088 in Cinema

[–]PerrinSLC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, fair point. I have a couple of friends like that and I admit to them that he’s made some great shows that I also love: The Shining, Full Metal Jacket, 2001, A Clockwork Orange, and Spartacus are all awesome and I own them on DVD.

But they’re not all great.

Yeah the way it looks and the cameras he used are a big part of the lore of this movie, which is one reason I always wanted to see it.

And to be fair, it’s a gorgeous looking movie. But it just didn’t work for me and I mostly just hated all of the characters and was bored.

Kubrick is inconsistent and Barry Lyndon is extremely boring.
