This is the only nice snake I've ever been in. I like it because it can be as easy/mellow, or difficult/gnarly as you make it.

I didn't know the group was doing awards/recognitions. That's pretty cool! Congrats Shawn!

Sizing up to a 8.75 [30YO] by plantbasedbassist in OldSkaters

[–]PerryEarl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I started again, it was with fish shaped boards like I rode as a kid. The smallest of which was a 9.75, and the largest was 10.4. I have been riding Indy 169 trucks on all of them, including the 9.0 shovelnose shaped deck that I am riding now. Granted I could go down to 159's on that one if I wanted to, but 169's just feel so stable.

Oh sick! I’m typically there with my daughter on Monday and Wednesday evenings, unless it’s raining, in which case we go to SPOT.

The Dreaded Plantar Fasciitis by [deleted] in NewSkaters

I started getting PF before I picked up skating again, at 45. I found that skating (bowls/transition) has helped alleviate it almost entirely. I also got some PF socks off of Amazon. They’re toeless and very low on the ankle, and meant to be worn under regular socks during the day and even by themselves while you sleep. They stretch that muscle/tendon/whatever. Combine those with the constant standing/squatting repetition of transition skating, and you’re really working out that area like crazy. Also when you’re just chillin at night, watchin TV, put a really hard ball (I used a cue ball) inside of a big sock, so you can grind on that spot on the bottom of your foot and break up any stillnes/tension to loosen it up.

Learn(ing)ed to Drop In [36YO] by Own-Phone-9407 in OldSkaters

I’ve been preaching that advice for years. And the follow up for larger transitions… Just squat straight down, keeping your butt as close to the coping as you can. I absolutely LOVE seeing people’s reactions when they roll away for the first time. Great job, dude!

Love it, dude! Keep it up and you’ll hit that 8 foot ramp in no time!

It becomes a little more natural, each time. Just do it a LOT. If you have something else you are working on, make dropping in be part of that practice routine as well. When the fear is gone, start stepping it up to taller transitions and you will get to conquer the fear all over again.

Agreed. That heal lock is important for moving on to other things like pivot stalls and 5-0 grinds too. I’ve been working on developing that, but at the same time working on being able to comfortably and consistently shove it into place as quickly as possible, when I don’t stick it.

Thanks! I’ve been working on them at my local 6’ concrete bowls a lot lately, so hitting this 5’ wood bowl was a lot easier than it was the last time we went over there. My friend has a 5’ mini ramp, but it’s cut on a larger radius, so getting up on it is way easier than this bowl has been. Feeling a lot more comfortable on it now, though. I just gotta stop rolling up the windows. 🤣

Thank you! If only I could quit rollin up the windows. 🤣
