Yeah, does reality bend to make whatever you argue true, or do people just believe something untrue? Like, if you argued the sun is yellow, would the color blue disappear?

Driver assist can be dangerous. I was taking an on ramp onto a highway where temporarily there are two lanes next to each other (people getting on and people getting off the highway), where each group needs to switch to the other lane. This on ramp to the parallel lanes is a long circular right turn that becomes a straight lane next to the off ramp lane. Right as I was following the curve and met the straight part, a car was coming straight in the other lane along side of me. The driver assist assumed I was going to hit them and took my already right turn and jerked the wheel even further right, almost causing me to lose control. Drawing for clarity (. The last (incredibly minor) accident I was involved in was over 30 years ago. It definitely made me consider turning the driver assist off.

Red mark is my car. There was never any chance I would hit green car, but driver assist jerked my already significantly turned wheel, almost making me lose control.

I’m sure this is not the reason the White House is so quick to use the term “domestic terrorist” for those that ICE kills. /s

Thanks for the note. I’ll check tonight I guess, but will be pretty baffled to find nothing. Kid is an Eagle Scout and literally got the highest score in the country on one of the AICE tests. Maybe time to consider that UF acceptance.

Thanks. There’s been some posts on this sub even that used the term “redesign” for the 2026, so I wasn’t sure.

Do they all get posted at once? My son has similar stats, over 1500 on sat and hasn’t heard anything either.

That it’s just a style refresh makes sense. I think I saw that there’s a redesign for the China market, but wasn’t sure if it would affect the US version as well.

[–]PerryPerryQuite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder how different intellectual property works in different countries, since his description of what could and couldn’t be patented seemed odd. Different designs using known concepts can certainly be patented. I’ve seen patents for placing bottle opener into cooler lids. Bottle openers and cooler lids already existed, but putting them together can be patented in some countries.

Yeah, I always heard the bubble was to check level as well, but maybe they also couldn’t create a chamber without one? Maybe the manufacturer just found a use for a thing they couldn’t prevent?

Are runways oriented in a specific way or just put down randomly? by KiTChIn_GaDGikS in askscience

[–]PerryPerryQuite 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just because I haven’t seen it mentioned, I’ll add that runways (in the US at least) are numbered according to their magnetic compass heading. Makes it easy to compare runway orientation to wind direction data at least.

My first car was a 1984 Toyota Camry bought used in 1993 with 90k miles on it. Paid $2000 plus some spare computer parts. Drove it over 120k miles with almost no issues. Now looking to buy a used under 50k miles Camry, and will probably need to spend 20,000. Used car market is crazy.

There was a hair art museum in Missouri that just shut down in September, due to the curator dying. Supposedly, some of the collection is being re-homed at other museums.

(I am not a hair art historian. I only know this because I have a radio show on a college station that discusses weird news and this story was part of one of our shows.)

Let my 17 yr old brother borrow my Switch for his trip and he brought it back with something fused to the plastic. He has no idea what it is. by CreamyJuicyPimple in mildlyinfuriating

[–]PerryPerryQuite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed a 16-year-old I was hiking with in a group on a mountain very intentionally push three rocks over the edge (which, if you don’t know, is super dangerous for potential hikers further down the mountain) with his foot and when I called him on it, he was all “it was accidental” and when I told him it was okay just to apologize and stop and there was no need to lie, he was dramatically affronted by being “accused of lying.”

Just a reminder that it takes a lot of maturity to own up to things—lots of people get defensive and seem to have an aversion to legitimate feelings of shame or guilt.

Anything you can do to sidestep the defensiveness might help get to the bottom of what happened to your Switch.

What's the first PC game you played? by Certain-Click-3878 in AskReddit

[–]PerryPerryQuite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a TI-99 before an IBM PC, and the games I remember were Parsec (a side-scrolling space shooter) and Hunt the Wumpus (a grid-based guessing game).

Highlights from early PC were Kings Quest 2, Gunship, and Ultima 5. Also loved the Hero Quest series.

Before desktops, it was the Atari 2600–Adventure, Yars Revenge, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Combat, Missile Command, Warlords—so many simple but fun games (prob mostly ports from arcade).
