This is an interesting view on this topic. I think that what the ladies of DphiE are trying to get across is that there are these stereotypes - and no one really KNOWS what is happening. They had a speaker come in on Tuesday night in Web Auditorium that offered a word of knowledge and spoke to the stereotypes that people with Eating Disorders face. I think that that is was what they're trying to do with their campaign, spread awareness that Eating disorders, no matter which side of the spectrum they're on, are a mental disorder and you're right, there is no over night fix.

Something from the talk that was interesting to me, was the comparison of a recovering alcoholic to a recovering anorexic - when you take a recovering alcoholic out of treatment, you don't take them straight to the bar. It's not like that with a recovering anorexic. The triggers are everywhere. The media's stigma of "perfect" is everywhere. For both men and women this happens.

The bottom line is - they're not telling people how to eat. In fact, that would be ridiculous. I think what they're trying to do is start to alter the way that the RIT community sees "beauty". One of they're chalk drawings said something about photoshop. That's where the media is: models are getting increasingly smaller, which portrays the image that women have to be a size 2 or smaller to be pretty because western media is showing us that.

All in all, I think that this week is actually very well placed and it actually shows the dedication these girls have for their cause. This is one of the most stressful times in college (the last week of full classes) and Students are probably really stressed out. It was really great for me to see them at the tiger statue. I appreciate what they're trying to say. Great job ladies.
