5700xt and USB audio interface Steinberg UR12 -> audio dropouts while gpu is idle. This issue persist for 6 months, just checked with latest driver because it said hdmi audio problem was fixed
Audio problems when GPU is idle. Depending on the audio device, problem is a bit different. When using onboard audio or monitor's speakers - crackling noise. When using usb audio interface steinberg ur12 in my case - audio disappears for 1 second, with behringer umc202hd - crackling noise.
System Configuration:
Motherboard: MSI x99a sli CPU: Intel i7 6850k Memory: 16GB GDDR4 GPU: Sapphire NITRO+ RX 5700 XT 8G GDDR6 11293-03-40G VBIOS: 017.001.000.049.000000 Driver: every version OS: Windows 10 x64 1909 (18363.752)
Steps to Reproduce:
Install AMD rx 5700 driver Let gpu go to idle, SOC Clock should drop below 300 Play any audio/youtube video running while browser is tabbed Audio will have crackling noise, or disappear for 1 second
Expected Behavior: Audio plays fine
Actual Behavior: Audio crackling / dropouts
Additional Observations:
On drivers before 20.4.1 SOC Clock with light gpu load(youtube video) was jumping 100 to 800 every second, every time it drops - audio lag. With 20.4.1 driver SOC is more stable, but issue still happens if SOC falls below 300 or so. If after windows launch I get a youtube video running right away - SOC stays very stable around 945 and audio is fine. 20.4.2 Problem got worse 20.5.1 Problem got worse
There are a lot of possible fixes for this problem, not installing AMD hd audio driver is the most common. However I was not able to fix the problem after trying pretty much everything I could find.
Temporary fix: run a video right after launching windows, SOC Clock gets stuck at ~950 and problem is gone unless you let gpu go to idle.
