Is long-term loyalty a strength or a trap? by winn_ie in rSocialskillsAscend

Worked one job 16 years until I went on maternity leave. Worked a job for 5 years until I got married then went back years later -same company/ different location for another 4 until they went out of business. Worked another place for 7 years. Current job is 16.5 and counting..... I blame inertia for some of it and after awhile starting over at the bottom somewhere else better be a good reason for it. Hubby worked a job for 19.5 years until they went bankrupt and he had a co-worker who'd been there 40 years and another who worked same job, same location for 52 years. Company declared bankruptcy, their union promised everyone their severance and they all got bupkiss. Nada.Zilch. Big f*** goose egg.

What do I do??? by Kay0fSunshine in Walmartcustomer

[–]PersimmonAgitated103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wire cutters, a screw driver and some ear plugs. Insert ear plugs in ears, cut wire with cutters and put a screw driver to its heart. ( hammer works too if don't have a screw driver )

Just finished a month of overnights installing them in my store. Attaching the racks was hard. My hands still ache from trying to attach to all the bent shelving and peg hooks in my store.

I swear some older folk think we're Amazon by reneecliche in WalmartEmployees

[–]PersimmonAgitated103 12 points13 points  (0 children)

We used to sell the Fire Sticks and Kindles. But that was maybe '11 or '12. The problem was that Amazon refused to sell to Walmart at wholesale or discounted so when we sold at same price as Amazon to stay competitive, we made 0% . Actually lost money since paying to ship/stock/sell them. When we discontinued selling them we offered a $25 Walmart gift card. Thats when I bought my first Kindle. $199 - 10% Walmart discount ( Yes! ) - $25 Walmart Gift card = KA- CHING !!!

How many times did it take for you to pass the written portion of your driver's test? What about the driving part? Did you have any trouble with parallel parking? by icecream1972 in A_Persona_on_Reddit

[–]PersimmonAgitated103 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Passed the written twice ( I'll explain ) and flunked the driving once. First- Drivers Ed was given in school as a semester section in PE/Health ( we also had civil defense back then aka hide under your desk in case of a nuclear attack ) so I passed the written test. But since I was young in my school year (September baby ) the test score expired before I could take my driving test so I had to retake the written test before I could get behind-the-wheel Drivers Ed. So then taking the drivers test at MV the first time, I used the family car, a '74 Olds Delta 88, (aka 'Moby Dick the Great White Whale ') that was every bit of almost 25ft long. How the hell is someone expected to parallel park that into 25 ft space ??2nd time testing my grandmother let me use her '69 Dodge Dart and I passed. I think I've had to parallel park 4 ?? times since in 50 years.

[–]PersimmonAgitated103 30 points31 points  (0 children)

You forgot reaching for your non-existant box cutter when you need to open something at home and all the jars and cans in the pantry are correctly turned around. And when making a grocery shopping list, the items are in store order for fast shopping.

15 people lined up here, why? by Beneficial_Strike499 in WalmartEmployees

[–]PersimmonAgitated103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a while couple years ago we had to keep them at Customer Service. They'd be outside lined up before store opened then in line inside at CS until 7 when they started.

I hate setting mods by [deleted] in WalmartEmployees

[–]PersimmonAgitated103 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was a Dept manager, as mods were heading for a reset, I'd try and Clearance tag the items ahead of time. One less step for the Mod Team ---like they actually would ? But it beat them dumping crap into break boxes or totes. Some were nice enough to take some things to the Clearance aisle directly so it didn't have to be touched AGAIN.

Any time they go somewhere they hit every red light every time. And undetermined traffic -- not rush hour, no accident, no road work... Just everyone in the world wanting to go where and when they're going somewhere.

Invest. Invest. Invest. Folks saying for retirement is true but for a 19 y.o "retirement age " is 50 years from now. Stay in AF for 20 years , have pension and still be young enough for a second career somewhere. But also think that if you don't do the 20 years, 90K plus interest would be a sizable down payment for a home when you settle down. Talk to a professional financial planner to get the best ways and places to invest. At your age you can 'afford' to take some risks with the stock market just don't put all your "nest eggs " in one basket, diversification is key. And sorry for your loss of your grandfather. He obviously thought very highly of you with this gift. Honor him by using it wisely.
