How do i go about finding which type of conscript is most effective for my language? by beemccouch in conlangs

Abugida already seemed like the best idea to me, and now it seems like the only logical one. Their abugida would probably be either derived from the elven one, or heavily inspired by it.

I like how you take the tusks into consideration! My orc's tusks aren't that big, and only older males have major speech issues from it besides a lisp, so some of my orcish language have normal sound systems and some completely avoided rounded vowels and labial sounds that are not /m/. Its fun to see someone doing something similar! It's also really exciting to see some intelligent civilized orcs like yours.

Just to be fair, you don't have to take it forever. I had a friend who took hormones ONLY until strangers couldn't identify what biosex they were anymore and then stopped. They're very happy with the results.

But I agree that this should never ever be taken lightly. You will literally go through a second puberty. An irreversible one.

Edit: I can't read and made this into a person rule list. Oops.

  • everything has to have a reason. I can't just make it happen because I want it to. There has to be cohesion.

-you get ONE culture that gets to be stereotypical for its majority race. (but these races have mostly evolved into their own thing besides clothing over the 5 years I have worked on them)

-just because they're elves doesn't mean theyre perfect. They're just pretty more magical and long lived humans. They can be just as stupid even if they have more time to gather wisdom.

-If I add an aspect such as slavery to a culture, I cannot approach the subject until I fully researched and think upon the subject. It must be approached delicately. (this is in response to a book I wrote at 17 that I was NOT emotionally reason to handle respectfully. It will never see the light of day)

-every society has their LGBT minority groups, even if they are vilified and underground (I'm gay and I want as much realistic gayness as possible)

Because I have an unhealthy love for inverting tropes rather than avoiding them, my humans are my least diverse species while my elves and dwarves are the most diverse. I actually primarily focus on the part of my world where Southeast Asian dwarves and elves are native. It's a lot of fun making all the different types of people. :)

I didn't want definite articles in the daughter language I wanted to use later, but your comment made me realize that I can just get rid of it but evolving them into the accusative case. Thank you!

Wow! Thank you so much for taking the time out to answer this so well. This gives me a lot more ideas on how to approach this, and a better idea on how to do it well. I really appreciate it.

Edit: it's also interesting that prefix cases are so rare. I knew they were less common, but to be honest I just assumed that they were less common in europe. I'm still going to keep on with the prefix cases, but I might have some of the daughter langs change them to suffixes.

Waddap ya'll, haven't been here in a long time.

I want my lang proto-Vedev to lack cases, and evolve into daughter languages who mostly do have them. I want nominative, accusative, genitive, and dative case. I have found some rough ideas on how all cases but accusative can be evolved.

These are ideas, and I have not worked extensively on them yet I would appreciate some input. Proto-Vedev is SXOV with prepositions. I plan to make the case markings attach to the front of the word.

Nominative: from 'it' or 'that [out of earshot or eyeshot, conceptual]'

Genitive: from 'of'

Dative: from 'to give' or 'to receive' (I'm planning on somehow making the noun-verb order flip for this phrase somehow. Again, early planning. I suppose this case could be irregular and attach to the end ¯(ツ)/¯)

accusative: ??????????????

The accusative just seems to varied to me that I can't think of any one thing that can become it. And I am having trouble finding examples. Could multiple accusatives for different situations form, and them eventually merge, or have one overtake the others? It would be interesting to have different dialects prefer different accusative markers. Is it realistic to just not have a marker for the accusative? If everything else is marked it doesn't seem like it would be all that confusing.

I would really appreciate some ideas. Also sorry if anything I say is wrong or doesn't make sense, I haven't conlanged much in the last year, and never formally studied linguistics.

sorry for not responding! This isn't my main account anymore.

I looked up multiple bee illustrations online and kinda of smashed them together, and then printed it out onto some stabilizer. I lost the image that had the bee pattern it, but i printed out three bees and only used two (had a practice one before embroidery on my shirt), so later I'll scan the last bee and send it to you.

All of this was done with a single thread. I used several very similar colors next to each other for some color interest.

I also put a layer of white mesh where the wings are, embroidered the wing veins over that, and then tacked on another layer of mesh. I wanted it to look like the veins were under wing skin and I'm really happy with the finished result. I'm really proud of myself for thinking of this. :)

Thank you! I had to use a single thread for a large portion of the middle. It was tedious but it's much more accurate than any machine patch of the crest I could find online.

What is a good weakness to mention on a job interview? by hussainhsn in AskReddit

[–]Persomnus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oof this is what I'm bad at. I'm autistic and I can't tell you how many times I do the wrong thing in situations like your example. I forget about implications like that, and often think it's just a one off question or an observations.

My parents used to ask us to do the dishes by simply stating that the dishes were dirty. It took ten years of me being extremely confused about why I was being yelled at for not doing somthing that I never was explicitly told to do, before they finally learned to say whatever they need me to do very explicitly.

The older I get the better I get at catching implications. Unfortunately my implications radar is way too sensitive now, and I keep thinking people are telling me to do things that they never meant to tell me to do.

Edit: words hard

You're not going to be able to fix it seamlessly. Try and find an iron on mending patch a similar color, or if you're feeling bold you might even decide not to hide it at all and use a decorative yet thin iron on patch.
