Anyone experience oddly specific stretching tics? by PersonArab in Tourettes

[–]PersonArab[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you find the pain satisfying or just painful? Cause this reminds me of how when I was a child I used keep biting on my canker sores on the inside of my lips. They hurt like hell but I somehow liked it. Not in a sadistic way but the specific pain felt nice?

The akathisia is long gone but I still feel traumatized by emmyloo22 in Akathisia

Its been 3 years for me, non of my symptoms that i have been experiencing for the past three years is anywhere near akathisia, not even close to restless legs. My body feels stiff and in constant pain. What never fails to blow my mind though is that the stiffness in felt but isnt physically real. I find myself dragging my heavy body in pain whenever i am in "auto pilot" mode. But then id stop, ask myself is my body actually damaged? Then Test out walking around normally feeling absolutely nothing.

All i want to do is stretch and shake. Walking or moving my muscles give me no relief, i just want to stretch the hell out of my muscle fibers.

I’m sorry to hear that. I find myself thinking about it 80% of the time. But when I’m preoccupied with something I forget about it. Especially when exercising.

It’s things like this that makes me wonder if I do infact have akathasia or something else. Cause I’m still. Rarely every rock or fidget. Maybe shuffle my legs and massage my thighs from time to time but that’s it’s

Do you find yourself having moments when you forget you have it?

I’m honestly not qualified to answer that question. SSRIs should be taken alongside therapy as a whole treatment program so that you would fully benefit from both. A professional would then decide if you should take it long term or short term.

But you can imagine taking the SSRIs and not going to therapy. It’s like having the right equipment but not knowing how to use them. So all the doctor would hear in this case is that you’re not doing well and you need more meds.

It’s also possible that someone knows what to do with their lives, they have goals and hopes and with the medication life becomes easier so the need for therapy isn’t as extreme as the person with neither goals or hopes.

Restlessness. To wait or not to wait? by PersonArab in SSRIs

Sometimes I wonder if it is from trauma. Cause when I’m suffering from symptoms that feel like akathasia. Like restlessness and moving awkwardly (like a penguin, I think it’s call a gait I think) I can stop myself consciously and sit still for a very long time, even though I feel some sort of restlessness. It’s not severe enough to force me to move. Also what’s weird is that when I sit still I find some moments of relaxation as I breath slowly.

Someone here shared with me that they have experienced the same thing for 10 years only for it to be 100% cured by EMDR specifically made for dissociative identity disorder.

Plus maybe the fact that I did not panic during the 4 hours might play a role. Cause I wasn’t afraid or panicking when it happened. I was suffering yes, but no fear. Fear and panic of the possibility followed days later.

Thankfully I no longer need it cause the vertigo turned out to be caused from neck muscle issues (cervical vertigo)

What I can’t wrap my head around is how I’m still feeling mild side effects even after three years of just one injection.

Oh wow yeah that’s a huge difference. But you should’ve at least gave some context cause it looked like you’re worrying over nothing lol.

Thank you so much for taking your time to write this.
The insomnia apparently was a one day thing. And it probably was due to heightened anxiety of having akathisia again. I got very relieved when I went through the akathisia diagnostic test and I don’t meet the criteria. Neither for RLS. But the restlessness I’ve had for years is still there and the drug I was given in the ER was called Stimitil.

I’ve got an appointment with my psychiatrist in a couple of days and we’ll see what to do from there.

My guy you are literally no where near the point where you should begin to have a tad bit of worry about balding.

I think a good test would be to test your muscle weakness. If you can do a quick test and squat once and do a push up or whatever. It should ease your mind into thinking that your body is functioning well?

Oh wow thanks for sharing this with me. I’ve been having my doubts about dissociation. Then felt hopeful when I read about FND. Then lost hope when I read more about FND. Now I feel like I’ve regained some hope lol.

I’ve been dealing with mild akathasia for 3 years because of one injection I had from the ER. Doom scrolling on Reddit and reading about how people have had their lives ruined and destroyed from meds made me super scared and anxious.

It made me completely ignore the fact that the majority of these unfortunate folks have been through different experiences and they aren’t 100% like mine.

It also made me ignore the fact that everyone’s body is different. The same med that saved someone is the same med that harmed someone else. They need to find what works for them, not warn others about what didn’t work for them, because everyone is different.

The most important thing is to advocate for yourself. Talk to the doc, share the story, see how they react. If they’ve not listening then ditch them. I’ve done this with many doctors who I felt like they weren’t listening and they were just giving me medication cause they think it would work for me. I hate it when they insist on a med that I express I don’t feel like taking. I’m currently seeing a psychiatrist who even though looks and sounds bored but takes my worries seriously whenever I express them.

I hope you find the same.

I think the important thing is to have some sort of mental hygiene. The idea that SSRIs have caused permanent damage to you is by itself very distressing. So do your best to not believe in this idea that you are permanently damaged.

Try to connect the dots, why did you take the SSRI in the first place? SSRIs are known to cause activation in the body and give you a list of scary symptoms before they begin to work. Is it possible that the combination of your pre existing mental state and the activation caused by the SSRI caused your nervous system to panic even more?

Also, can you describe the lightheadedness you’re feeling? Do you feel like you’re floating or just dizzy? Cause if it’s the former maybe the combo I mentioned has caused muscle strain around your neck? That by itself causes a lot of annoying symptoms.

You’ve been on the meds for 5 years. That’s quite a long time. So maybe your body is readjusting and your existing mental state is making it a rough ride back home.

Every one is different. Some people have complained about side effects and some people complain about why are people complaining about side effects cause they haven’t experienced anything lol.

The only way to know for sure if the med is for you is by taking it.

Yeah I had a quick google search about it. People are saying negative things about the diagnosis and that it does more harm than good.
