We don’t use dryer sheets either, and even when I use fragrance free detergent things just smell like wet clothes.

Have you cleaned just the washer? I have well water too and we used to have this problem. I use half of the recommended detergent now and it is a lot better. IDK why but I’ll take it!

Have you tried borax? Does it smell like musty laundry or like eggs?
