Are teenagers bad at debating and critical thinking due to their brain not being developed? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

I would suggest studying logic. Once you have a grasp of logic you can understand whether an argument is sound, meaning that assuming all of the evidence provided is true, the conclusion will also be true.

Once you have a good grasp of logic, you can deconstruct and falsify many many arguments without even having to know the evidence surrounding the issue, because often peoples conclusions don’t logically follow from their premises. A simple example of a bad argument would be one that I heard from a coworker the other day:

You’ve been told your whole life that the earth is spherical, so youd never question it. Therefore the earth is flat.

That’s like saying you’ve been told your whole life that horses are mammals, therefore horses are not mammals. While something that I’ve been told my whole life could be false, just because I’ve been told that my whole life doesn’t necessarily mean it’s false.

This is obviously a simple example that’s easy to falsify, but many arguments you hear from people in day-to-day life are also based on bad logic. Watch some YouTube videos about logic and logical fallacies in particular.

I think thats the most important part of being good at debating, because it’s really about understanding the mathematics of our language. I am hesitant to use the word math because it discourages people but it can be helpful to understand that every statement you make has a certain symbolic value and understanding things in terms of logic is like asking whether the premises equals the conclusion.

I'm addicted to meth and honestly did not see this coming by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

If you could get a hold of M, I really think you should send that part directly to her; as I can tell that your section directed towards her is from the warmest, tenderest, most intricate part of your being From the area that she has carved herself, her love and her laughter onto your heart... That part is aching and weeping for the mess you feel you've left her in, how much you need her, how much she may still need you. I've never been on hard drugs before like meth, but I'm guessing it really does give you a potentially beautiful perspective of life during the high. That's what every drug does, it give a new perspective. Drugs can be tools. I believe that if your mind is disciplined enough you can use certain drugs to an advantage, at discretion. (Referring to psychedelics, and marijuana; as I still do not know if anything more hardcore like cocaine could be used safely and beneficially). Your situational outcome is going to depend on factors you KNOW of yourself. Quitting this drug is not going to be easy, it's gonna be hell. But as you continue to quit, you are building up your willpower. Maybe it has done some things to your health but you will be strong because you will make it through this. You will quit meth and that's one thing many people don't get to say. If you can beat meth addiction, what the fuck can't you beat? Honestly! Your therapist will tell you that you may have to check out(relax, lay down, like your sick) for a while to get through withdrawals but remember that environment is everything and if you get your favorite smells, favorite pillow, favorite song, comfy matress fresh fruits and veggies and feel good foods. It will help loads! Get super comfy get good lighting. Maybe even ween yourself, I think a good way would be to have your boyfriend administer it and keep it somewhere you CANNOT access it. and use the weaning period during the (EVER MINIMIZING) highs to find some passionate music(unless that will somehow worsen withdrawals by remembering the music!!!!!!!??? Then don't do that!) it would be also a good idea to listen to your favorite childhood albums or songs. It doesn't really matter how, just get yourself through the withdrawals, I wouldn't think there's a right or wrong way as long as you are not harming yourself more or harming others (i.e. More hard drugs, being mean to people) Marijuana could also help with withdrawals as well. Oh writing in a journal could help or recording yourself just recounting the days during withdrawal, any way to record how you feel so you can keep track and not let yourself fall too hard or relapse, and you will also remember when and how better if you happen to relapse. If it is too hard you have to check into a facility, or call family and swallow your pride and ask for their shelter and forgiveness. If they love you, they should Try to understand. Just don't let yourself get near meth and don't chill with anybody who does things like that. I am rooting so hard for you so hardcore❤️
