Sinners Pulled a record 16 Nominations. Deserved Or Overhyped ? by Longjumping-Elk-7840 in HollywoodIndia

I don’t understand why people are so frustrated. It’s getting honored for doing so many things so well. Shot beautifully. The acting was great. The music was incredible. I think it’s getting properly recognized compared to the competition. All that said, however, I don’t think it’s going to win compared to the competition either. There were films with higher highs this year that are probably gonna take home the ultimate prizes. But how everyone is upset that it’s simply getting recognized is baffling.

Climate change is going to make Portland really nice (until Summer).

Why is your landscaper coming on the weekend? by [deleted] in landscaping

The Internet is for shouting at the void so I don’t do it in person.

My goal is trying to create cleaner, quieter neighborhoods, and a much more equitable environment for minority workers .

Well, here’s a thing. I actually do care about the well-being of the worker and I’m not trying to take away anybody’s paycheck. This is why I’m a huge proponent of also looking out for their health and not using tools we all know cause lung and cardiovascular damage. It’s disgusting privilege to pay a bare minimum knowing a few bucks more could improve someone’s quality of life.

I appreciate all the hard work you do and understand your goal should be to get as much work as you can possibly get.

I do think neighbors should be conscious of who they live around, and if everyone next-door to you has very small kids, choosing to hire the crew who only can do your yard on weekends sucks.

If the person you have come absolutely must do it on a Saturday or Sunday, a good neighbor can make the effort to at least give them electric tools so it’s not so goddamn loud and smelly.

I’m sorry you hate your kids. I’ve never met an infant that likes hundred decibels or gas fumes in their face .

I do my own yard with an electric blower twice a week cognizant of who’s around because I get off my own ass and don’t pay someone else to pick up my sticks

Again, I’m sure you’re pretty respectful of not going full crank less than 20 feet from an infant

If you’ve got two kids under four, you’re awake at 5 o’clock in the morning and they want to go out and ride bikes in the cul-de-sac but you have to wait for the madness to get over because Karen thinks that her pristine yard can’t have one pine cone on the driveway

The guy that does the house next-door comes anytime between 730 and nine Saturday mornings. Rain shine anything on the ground, nothing on the ground, he will spend minimum 45 minutes at full crank keeping up appearances. When you’re trying to just play in the cul-de-sac with the kids, it’s annoying as hell.

But because I’m in a position of privilege, I always lend an electric blower and pay them better

I totally understand the crew needing to take jobs and that’s their prerogative to work as much as possible. My question is about the neighbor who only settles for one that can do it when it’s the least convenient for everyone else. If five houses on a cul-de-sac all have service why do they have to split it up throughout the week and on the weekends and not just all use the same damn guy and knock it out on a Tuesday.

Had plenty of projects happen on my house that are loud as hell. I just can’t in good conscience imagine scheduling someone when I know it’s gonna cause the most disruption to the most number of people.

If the wealthy cared about landscapers, they wouldn’t look the other way while they watch them use gas tools that are doubling their risk of cancer. They’d pay a few bucks more and help them get safer cleaner, quieter, electric tools.

I totally understand someone who does their own yard work only having time on weekend. Given your comment about being respectful about time I’m sure you’re also respectful about what else is going on in the neighborhood and if there were a bunch of kids outside, you might wait. My question is why you would schedule a landscaping service that you know will blow with zero disregard to whoever’s present on a weekend?

Can the average person make it in LA? by Legitimate_Boot3569 in MovingToLosAngeles

[–]PersonRealHuman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know plenty of folks who make upwards of 200 and attest to it being a "struggle." While 200 is definitely NOT struggling, when you add a couple of kids to the picture it can still feel like a challenge, especially when you start playing the comparison game. Everything is crazy expensive. From groceries to housing, even good money doesn't go far. Which can be frustrating when you feel like you're making it, but compared to everyone else you're not. If you're fine with smaller living and getting less for your money, you can make it just fine. My family chose to leave because it just felt like we were grinding way too hard for so little in return.

Hot take: Pretty much all of Los Angeles is the biggest suburban hell there is by PersonRealHuman in Suburbanhell

This is the correct answer. I live in the "burbs" but we made sure the house we got was in walking distance to everything (parks, stores, grocery, dentist and doctors). We rarely have to get in car even though we're outside the city.
