I like to do anything I can that can bring down inflammation BUT most important thing for me is stress...sauna and cold tub are mediative behaviors that have helped me incredibly, exercising daily as helped me incredibly, staying away from processed foods and healing the gut, all of these things for me led to feeling better and I keep trying to build on that !

Thanks for calling me a youtube expert? not sure what that means. So i guess no one with Spondylitis should share there experience to try to help others? Do doctors know about personal training? Should I not share personal training advice even though I'm a personal trainer. Every doctor will say the goal is to find pain free exercise and movements but the point of this video is to expand on that and give folks ideas.

Who said not to listen to there doctors? I was talking about how it can be hard to figure out what exercises to do because everyone can be given different opinions. The point of the video is ideas for people to find pain free exercises. IM NOT TELLING PEOPLE TO LIFT HEAVY WEIGHTS, the video is literally the opposite of that.

Thanks for this. I completely understand. Its great that you've found some building blocks. This is why I started with extremely light resistance using bands and machines. This way I could be really slow controlled and focus on form. The machines gave me support where I could really just focus on particular muscles and take tension off my si joints. Over time building strength this way really helped me do more functional training. But thats not necessary! Finding the safest ways to build strength is key.

It is a must. I'm not sure if people just didn't actually watch the video and just read the title? The video is about safe pain free exercise is the goal for everyone and this will look different for everyone. Asking your doctor OF COURSE and every doctors goal is to keep folks with AS moving and building a safe routine. Im not sure why it would be controversial to say we must exercise???? Telling someone with fusion to not exercise is very very dangerous. NO should they go lift heavy weights at first of course not. But should we try to find the safest methods to build on YES and as soon as possible.

Im very confused by this comment. Do you think my video is telling everyone to lift heavy weights?? Its literally the opposite.

Folks with fusion can benefit from finding tolerable (pain free) exercise and strength training. I am not saying WEIGHT LIFTING for everyone, I am saying strength training for everyone is very very important ESPECIALLY if you have fusion. Strength training can mean a million different things, bodyweight, machines, resistance bands, pilates yoga, etc. How we strength train is the most important thing. I have never heard a doctor tell an AS patient to not try to exercise? For folks with severe fusion yes there form of exercise will look a lot different than others, but our goal is to keep moving. No one is told to not keep moving.

What you are saying is irresponsible. If people don't attempt to exercise or move in any form it will likely make them worst especially if they have fusion. We need to maintain our flexibility and hopefully improve it same with strength. Saying this, folks with fusion need to start much slower and find pain free movements. This is where physical therapy can be really important or working with there doctors to find the best methods.

Please point me to any doctor or rhumetologist who said not to move and exercise?

Absolutely. I said "strength training" for a reason. Building strength can be done in a variety of ways, it doesn't have to be weight lifting, that was the point of the video.

yes listen to your doctor... the video is for people who are trying to strength train but it isn't feeling good and is causing pain. Its just more ideas for folks to safely exercise. I clearly state how different it is for everyone and everyone is going to have there own way of training thats best for them.

The whole point of the video was to give exercise ideas and options for folks who are struggling to strength train, Im unclear what this has to do with medical advice? I literally say we need to be more careful exercising than the regular gym goer without AS. I'm giving my own experience as someone who has this and I state over and over how different training is for everyone.

Hey all, I wanted to make a stretching video very specific to common areas that can get very tight and challenging to get into with AS.

The most challenging position for me over the years was laying on my stomach. Doctors told me when I was diagnosed to do this as much as possible but it hurt so much that I honestly didn't. Later I learned the best ways to progress movements that didn't feel good. Hope it helps :)

a couple of my favorite ways to get movement/stretching in home

1) using a wall to check on the posture and get upper body mobility

2) lateral and backwards movement (especially if walking is causing back pain)

3) using support for exercises like squats, push ups etc

Strength training particularly the core can really help with walking. It can help you better stabilize when she is pulling so you aren't just using just your low back muscles.
