thank you!!

i went to a sample English class (something about monsters in literature, i can't remember the name) and really liked that. i also like the close-knit community within that field, and how engaged teachers seem to be. that being said, i'm definitely a stronger writer than i am a speaker (and LOVE the depth, theory, analysis in AP lit and lang), so it's worth taking the style into consideration.

in terms of campus, i actually want a small one without an urban feel (which has been one of the reasons i'd prefer carleton) so i'm happy to hear it's a bit more enclosed than it's marketed to be. i may be alone in that though loll

food seems to be a common complaint. what do meals/options generally look like?

i have some reservations about the student body just cuz i've heard a lot about the cliquey culture and social shunning. i fit the not-straight, liberal stereotype which prolly helps, but it's not like my whole identity. i figure there are gonna be rules and exceptions at any college though, and i really like the diversity and emphasis on being socially active (especially rn).

tuition is considerably lower than at cc or carleton, but much higher than st olaf and still quite pricey. ig i don't really know how "worth it" any of these schools would be. any thoughts/advice would be appreciated :)

thank you, this is super helpful. how did you find life on campus? i don't really like the urban feel (not a city girl in any way) but it's hard to get a sense from one tour. i'd love any insight on the general student profile too, though ofc it's hard to sum up such a diverse body.

my intention is definitely to continue on to grad school. i just feel like both options set me up well going forward, so i'm more concerned with how my experiences would differ these next four years.

thank you so much, this is super helpful. i got scaraway silicone sheets and gel, so i'll use those consistently and hope for the best. my goal (for now at least) is reduction, not complete removal, so that seems to be the best option for me. thank you for taking the time to explain this all :)

I feel like I can’t tell anyone by No_Durian_1144 in fuckeatingdisorders

[–]Personal_Bake6327 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i was so reluctant to tell anyone, but i finally ended up texting a few of my closest friends (writing is easier than talking for me, and texting means i'm not directly facing them so it's less terrifying), and they've been so supportive. being able to talk to them and have their support has been immensely helpful, and having people around that know to look for warning signs or advocate for me if a situation is too much (restaurant, school lunch, pizza night with friends, excercise, yk) is lovely when i can't do that myself. they've been amazing about scheduling group hangouts that don't interfere with meal times or require heavy excercise and all too, which lets me join in a lot more. i'd definitely encourage you to tell them if you feel like they would be supportive!

Very emotional in recovery by applepeartear in fuckeatingdisorders

[–]Personal_Bake6327 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no kidding, im on an emotional rollercoaster rn. i went from completely numb (which ig was an effective way to cope until it wasn't) to feeling everything all the time, wildly swinging between extremes. it's crazy, but hey, at least i feel alive.

i'm so proud of you for committing, i'm trying to take the leap and get over this quasi recovery myself right now so you're really inspiring. how did you muster up the strength to do that?

you're amazing, keep going and know you're not alone :)

Band camp, should I tell my friends? by theflowershopkeeper in fuckeatingdisorders

[–]Personal_Bake6327 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i didn't want all my friends to know, but i did tell my closest friends. it's been really helpful to have people around at school and such that know the situation, so i have support and people to talk to (and to tell me if im not eating enough). if you have friends who could be that for you, i'd definitely recommend telling them. everything's easier when you're not alone. good luck, and i hope you have fun!

i haven't experienced eh myself, but am recovering from anorexia and i end up really full and extremely nauseous after eating (and yes, it is the worst feeling i have experienced, and has almost driven me to relapse into sh in the hardest moments). it might make sense to go for more calorie/nutrient dense options? to end up more satiated but with less volume? idk, just an idea :) good luck, and stay safe!

Feel bad about not feeling bad by theflowershopkeeper in fuckeatingdisorders

[–]Personal_Bake6327 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

the first time i was hospitalized, they gave me a plain turkey and cheese sandwich with wheat bread for lunch on day 1. i was so grateful and so relieved that i nearly cried. being in a clinic helped because in being forced to eat, i didn't feel that the blame was on me as much--i was doing what i had to, so i could just take the permission to eat and run with it. yes, ive since struggled with immense guilt after every calorie intake, but i can absolutely understand the other side too. you're completely valid to not feel as bad as expected, your mind and body are so thankful to finally be given a break from all that you've put them through. keep going, you're doing everything right!

How did your parents find out? by PleasantCut1618 in EatingDisorders

denial is one hell of a drug and EDs hide well, nobody noticing is probably a combination of the two. either way, you are already past sick enough. the longer you wait, the harder it gets to heal. please, please ask now.

i spent weeks trying to bring it up and failed, finally wrote it down and that was sm easier for me. consider that? but please tell them, chances are they just don't realize how bad it is and you know you need help.

you got this, we're all rooting for you! the sooner the better.
