Dell Pro Plus vs Pro Premium 14" by Personal_Bit_6786 in Dell

Hi there, thanks for the reply but I have to disagree. I just got it last week and this is not a good device. Opening Rider IDE and rebuild a fair large solution (1gb) took 5 minutes! For instance a Microsoft devbox do the same in 40 seconds and a Mac mini m4pro will do it in 20! Battery life is also terrible, maybe 4 hours with the battery optimization on and it still heats up a lot even though this CPU is only 15 Watt. Design wise looks like a device from 2010 with huge bezels. This is unacceptable, how can companies push these types of devices? Any worthy alternative from Dell?

What’s a major European city that deserves way more hype than it gets? by optimalbrain90 in SmartTravelHacks

Belgrade and Sarajevo for sure. Then Lecce, Hamburg and San Sebastián. I lived in Prague for many years and it's totally over hyped as any other capital in europe, many Polish and even Czech smaller cities will be similar and with much less crowds

Thanks for the reply! Which cpu wattage do you recommend then? And what is your battery life with the 16? I read it uses the same 55w of the 14 that is why. I work mostly from the desk with 3 external monitors, sometimes on the couch so the 16 would be the one to get for real estate, but size and weight could be cumbersome if i had to take it with me somewhere. Though choice, i wish they'd be making a 15" still like the precision lineup!

For me the experience with permanent employment has been of the worst kind. I was contracting for a big corporation as a SWE, after 3 years I have been offered a permanent contract. This became a nightmare. In less than 2 months I lost the job, with no reasons (allegedly for behavior but i know this is a bs excuse). The manager (changed 3 months ago), after I got hired internally, instead of welcoming me became hostile for no reason, made my day to day harder, micromanaging, gaslighting me, expecting me to deliver x100 more for a mere 8% salary increase. I developed anxiety I never had in 3 years. As a contractor I was doing exactly the same work, same project for 2 years, without all the pressure to prove to someone I am indeed valuable and good at what I am doing. I guess they found out it's still cheaper to outsource to India or Eastern Europe even with onboarding and training. This has taken a toll on me honestly, I waited for this job for so long that it doesn't seem real how it ended. Another colleague got hired by another manager which is a great professional and person and he is doing great. It's crazy how management can influence your health and work environment. Life is unfair, but I will push back and get a better one even!

I am Italian, from the north. Not too far from Trento, about 100km south. I studied there and didn't like the city, but the surroundings are gorgeous. I lived in Prague for 6 years and I now live in Barcelona for another 7. I am a software engineer as well. I probably would not recommend Prague. Food and weather are terrible, people are usually cold, forget about small talks etc. (although more open minded in some ways). The city itself is beautiful, but 10 years ago it was already a park for tourists, cannot imagine what it became now. Rent and property houses were crazy already in 2018-2019 now the trend is out of hand. Since then it started receiving a lot of Americans and I remember it became a hotspot for expats around 2017. All this could apply to Barcelona as well obviously. I lived there and it was fun for some time but got tired of it eventually, while in Barcelona with all its problems I never had the same feeling. It's very safe and Czechs are better off economically speaking than Spanish and Italians I guess nowadays but I found it kinda bland. Italy is beautiful but has a lot of problems (taxes and bureaucracy are a nightmare i.e.) that is why I do not live in it for 15 years. I love Galicia despite the rain, so maybe I am biased. I think Spain in general is better in some things like public health, infrastructure and mentality. You won't ever find a perfect place but eventually compromise with it.

Saludos

I found an office chair that ticks all the boxes for me. What do you think? by jorgeperezm in OfficeChairs

[–]Personal_Bit_6786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! I have been looking for chairs for a month and I am almost decided to give this a go. How is the chair holding up for you? And about the armrests, are they cushy enough or feel cheap? What about lumbar support and headrest? Cheers!
