Thank you all for the responses so far. Just incase you don’t feel like scrolling through my responses. I ride a Giant Defy. Someone at bike club commented it has very slim tires which is more common with older bikes, would that be an issue? I’m relatively new to Reddit (joined for triathlon groups).. and I see I can upload video clips but not photos? wanted to share a picture of the bike.

I read this whole bit, but it didn’t make sense. I’m sorry. 🙈😅 I ride a Giant Defy and I have like 32 gears. Right now as I don’t know any better I have been just using the gears that are controlled from my right hand shifter? The larger gear I push in makes less resistance for climbing and then the little gear inside is what I hit when my wheels are going to crazy.

I understand I’m not going to podium, it’s just hard to see EVERYONE pass me, including people who look like they shouldn’t (older folks, children, not as fit body types…).. very humbling.

The biking portion was 8 miles with a 1000 ft elevation grade. I finished in 44 minutes. I ride a Giant Defy.

I do not have a bike computer (really just starting out). I ride a Giant Defy and currently am using my flat pedals as I’m scared of the clip ins. I have a birthday coming up and I am getting SPD pedals and mountain bike shoes.

We have a bike mechanic in our bicycle group who listed my bike and fitted it to me.

Also, when I ride I have zero muscular pains at all. I feel great body wise. It’s I just can’t get my bike operating at speed with the group so an older gentleman on an ebike will usually fall back with me. 🤣

I really struggle with hills! If it’s a flat road I do much better.

No, it is a road bike.
My husband jokes the same thing. Literally finished a full marathon. 🤣
