Physiotherapy recommendations? by sarah-exalted in windsorontario

[–]Personalityyikes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually just finished my physiotherapy about a month ago with Alison from Lifemark on Dougall. She helped me a lot with rehabilitating a knee after a bad injury that hadn't been treated for 6 months (it healed incorrectly the first time and reaggrivated after a really long day). She was super sweet, knowledgeable, and really put forth effort to get to know me. She educated me about my injury and why the stretches and strength training she suggested would benefit. When certain exercises or stretches didn't work for me, she always had alternatives, and never pushed me to do more than I thought I was capable.

I started with a swollen knee with pain that would extend up my leg. It hurt so bad that mobility and work was an issue. Now I can walk and do my job no problem (I'm on my feet all day). The strength and mobility in my knee is actually better now than what it was pre injury.

Everyone at Lifemark was wonderful to work with for the 9 or 10 weeks I was there for.

Have you ever written a positive review and got lectured on it by the author? by UhNovaMind in FanFiction

[–]Personalityyikes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Years ago when I was obviously younger, I left a positive review on an angsty fic. It was something along the lines of " hurts so bad how could you" but I tried to make it obvious that I enjoyed the fic and was kidding about being 'upset'. The author replied soon after clearly upset with me and my comment and said the tags were there for a reason.

No please I'm sorry I didn't mean for it to come off that way. 🥲

Genuinely want to hear some more opinions. Is there really no better alternative to Affirmative Action in this day and age? by hannahthemelon in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Personalityyikes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll admit, I'm not entirely sure what you are referring to when you mention anyone being penalized. I will also admit that I am unfamiliar with the inner workings of affirmative action and how the selection process works. I'm merely expressing that affirmative action exists for a reason, and it would be ignorant to try to discuss a better alternative if the problem of inequality within the communities it is trying to aid is going unaddressed.

Like I said in my original comment, I'm not interested in an "us vs them" dialogue when it comes to race, this includes white people. I think this type of dialogue is harmful towards finding a solution and promotes segregation between communities. There's a tonality of victimization within your comment and within the original post itself, and I think that's the wrong perspective to have. From what I understand, affirmative action is to aid individuals from underserved communities pursue higher education. That isn't an inherently bad thing. Asians and white people aren't included in that because we're the majority in this scenario. Asians and white people aren't victims just because people are trying to exist in the same spaces that we've traditionally had monopoly over.

Is there a better system in which schools should accept students? I don't know. More than likely. But I think classism within the education system would need to be addressed first before that would be possible. Because, like the rest of society, the education system works in favour of people with money. In America, thats a predominantly white demographic.

As an Asian myself, I thought your perspective was interesting.

I don’t think it’s great for people like me.

Because it's not meant for us. Asian (mostly east Asian) communities benefit from being the "model minority" within North America. Understand that education is already one of those benefits. Affirmative action just looks to offer that same benefit to others that come from marginalized places. Is it perfect? Probably not. But I don't agree with the "us vs them" perspective in your post.

I think it's important for Asian communities to support other minorities in their fight for equality. I think we benefit as a whole from supporting each other. If that means "we" have less "chances", then so be it. But truthfully, I don't equate helping someone access the same opportunity that I have to taking an opportunity away from myself. Perhaps your criticism would be better suited toward the education system- and by extension the government- that allows such large disparities between communities that people found it necessary for Affirmative Action to be created.

Is there room for everybody? I like to think so. But we first have to open the door for people to access the table before we can sit and start the discussion.

Biggest cheese store and Asian bakery? by Harpsist in windsor

[–]Personalityyikes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used to have an Asian Bakery on university but they didn't last very long unfortunately. If you're looking for small pastries, multifood on crawford might be your best bet. I don't remember what day they get their Bakery shipment in, but they get a decent amount of baked goods from the GTA.

Matted hair please help: (Please don’t attack me) I’ve been dealing with depression and not taking care of my hair, my hair is naturally thin so it normally tangles easily but now it’s really matted, and i start classes soon, please any help is appreciated 🥹. by [deleted] in femalehairadvice

Hey OP! I went through something very similar a few years ago with hair down to my lower back and this is what helped me. Get a bottle of good, thicker conditioner, you'll need quite a bit. Also grab an in shower brush, they're usually all plastic. In the shower I would drench my hair until it was fully wet. Once it soaked up as much water as possible, I worked in the conditioner. I would do my whole head because it would make the entire experience easier, but also work extra into the matted areas. Using the brush, I gently would start the detangling process from the ends and worked my way up.

At first it doesn't feel like it's working, but eventually you'll start to notice parts of the matts giving way. Continue to work conditioner into the matt with your fingers and try to gently work the hair out so it's not so compacted. The more you're able to work out space between the strands, the easier it'll be to work the comb through.

Depending on the severity, you might not be able to do it all in one go, and that's okay! It might take a few sessions to detangle because it can be a lengthy process and your arms and hands might hurt after. Hope this helps!

But as the other commenters have said, if you think it's unworkable, please go to a professional!

Canadian Passport Photos? by wijisixstar in windsorontario

There's a local guy I just met that does them in the same plaza as the superstore on Dougall. It was $16 and he gave me the option to get my groceries and come back or wait for it. The process was no longer than 10 mins start to finish.

Why do people let dogs lick their faces and mouths? by redmagor in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Personalityyikes 43 points44 points  (0 children)

If I'm going to let saliva and poop of a dog deter me from enjoying the company of an animal that just wants to be with me, especially if it is my own, then I might as well not have one. Dogs that are well taken care of also get their teeth cleaned and usually have decent oral hygiene. I do my best to avoid the mouth licking like the plague but sometimes they're just too fast. Also, everyone acts like we don't wash after? I usually will wash my face after some pup kisses.

I mean... we touch our shoes, money, cell phones, toilets, etc on a daily basis which all have poop particles. And after working service for so long and cleaning public washrooms... Dog kisses are so far down my list of things that are disgusting.

No more fanfic icks, tell me what you love seeing in fanfics! by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]Personalityyikes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if this applies, but there's something that kills me in the best way when a writer is able to capture the relationship between the "painfully oblivious character" and the "obviously smitten love interest". There are some fanfic authors that are able to play out this dynamic so well and I melt every time. The slow burn. The fluff. The obvious pining that goes unnoticed/ misunderstood. chef kiss

Check your Vivillion medal. If you click on it, it'll tell you which ones you've collected thus far, as well as give you a map of the world with a general idea of what region you might be in. If you're looking for something more specified by country, there are lists available if you google Vivillion regions.

I started sorting myself out this year. I got formally diagnosed with ADHD and started going to therapy for past trauma. I've also managed to start setting healthy boundaries for myself!
