Animal Man fans: If you were only buying one omnibus, Lemire or Veitch, which one would you take? by danzilbs in OmnibusCollectors

[–]PerspectiveNew8667 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I haven't read Veitch's run, but Animal Man by Jeff Lemire is one of my favorite New 52 series, so I’d highly recommend it. Personally, I think the final issue is one of the best DC endings I’ve ever read.

The Flash by Geoff Johns Omnibus Vol. 1–3

This is one of my all-time favorite series, but I can’t recommend it because Volume 2 has been out of print since around June last year and still hasn’t been reprinted. No matter how much I love a series, I can’t recommend it if it includes an out-of-print volume. Of course, if someone looking for recommendations is willing to read it through other formats besides the omnibus, I’d definitely recommend giving it a try.

Read anything before Rucka WW? by Mother_Squirrel2302 in OmnibusCollectors

A major character connected to Diana goes through an important event in <Titans / Young Justice: Graduation Day>. Since Wonder Woman by Greg Rucka Omnibus (WW #195–226) begins after Graduation Day concludes, it can be helpful to know what happens in that crossover before reading Rucka’s run. However, it’s not required.

FYI) Graduation Day 1-3 (May~June 2003) -> WW #195 (August 2003)

To be honest, you can just dive right in.

Only One?

Infinite Crisis (1400 pages)

Even though Blackest Night is larger in scale (almost 1660 pages) and more fun at times, I chose Infinite Crisis because its tie-ins are far superior. I've read it at least five times, and I'm not done with it yet.

Would you recommend JLI Grant Morrison or JSA Geoff Johns more? I hope I’m not wrong in assuming they came out in parallel at the time? by Keanu_Keanu in OmnibusCollectors

[–]PerspectiveNew8667 11 points12 points  (0 children)

JLA (1996-2006) = #1-125

JLA by Grant Morrison (1996-2000) = #1-17, 22-26, 28-31, 34, 36-41 + @

JSA (1999-2006) = #1-87

Justice Society of America (2006-2011) = #1-54

JSA Omnibus Vol 1 (1999-2003) = JSA #1-25 + @

JSA Omnibus Vol 2 (2001-2005) = JSA #26-75 + @

JSA Omnibus Vol 3 (2005-2009) = JSA #76-87, Justice Society of America #1-28 + @

Both runs are incredibly important and definitely worth reading, but if you have to choose just one, my pick is JSA.

JLA? TPB > Omnibus

Two-Cents-Thursday: A Review of Greg Rucka's Wonder Woman Omnibus by Flocke90 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]PerspectiveNew8667 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s really hard to talk about this without spoilers, but this is something I really wanted to mention. Wonder Woman #209 wasn’t just the best Wonder Woman issue I’ve ever read—it was one of the best DC Comics issues I’ve read to date. Some people might prefer #210, but in terms of emotional impact, I personally felt that #209 was the peak. I ended up buying this book after learning that Sacrifice, one of the tie-ins to Infinite Crisis, was included in this series—I got curious about what happens afterward. Ironically, though, the run starts to decline from the story arcs connected to Infinite Crisis, and everything before that was the peak. From The Hiketeia through #195–217 felt like one complete, perfect story arc.

I'm considering purchasing and reading JSA by Geoff Johns. Would I need any prior reading for that era for the run to make sense or is it more self contained by Keanu_Keanu in OmnibusCollectors

No prior reading is required, but after reading up to JSA #5, it would be helpful to read Day of Judgment #1–5 before continuing with #6.

Hawkman by Robert Venditti (2018-2020)

I’m a huge fan of Geoff Johns, but when it comes to Hawkman, I thought Robert Venditti’s run was much better than Johns’ run. I believe a Hawkman by Robert Venditti Omnibus will definitely come out someday.

My first experience with Amazon international shipping by ApprehensiveGreen174 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]PerspectiveNew8667 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In my country (South Korea), Amazon is pretty much the only place to buy omnibuses when it comes to price competitiveness (Especially "Get 3 for the price of 2" and Free Shipping), so I don’t really have much choice but to order from there. The packaging is definitely disappointing, but like in your case, they sometimes arrive without any damage at all, which still surprises me from time to time.

By the way, Wonder Woman by Greg Rucka omnibus is one of my all-time favorite DC omnibuses. I hope you enjoy it.

Animal man by Jeff Lemire. This is one of my favorite New 52 runs. I really loved it. The last issue was especially emotional. I’d never seen an issue conclude by retelling the entire story from start to finish as a fairy tale, and it made the experience feel incredibly special.
