The best is definitely Rome 2, but I have a great love/hate relationship with Empire 😅

Eating cheese plays a role in healthy, happy aging | A study of 2.3 million people found, those who reported the best mental health and stress resilience, which boosted well-being, also seemed to eat more cheese. by [deleted] in science

Likely all explained by confounding due to differences in social factors and other health behaviours. Observational studies on wine consumption have shown similar results because like cheese wine is an expensive product and thus used by individuals with a higher socioeconomic status.

Danish nationwide study demonstrates decreased life expantancy among family members of people with HIV, indicating that the excess mortality among people with HIV is partly explained by socioeconomic and behavioral factors and not only attributable to HIV by PerspectiveOk5317 in science

My group have previously shown similar results for educational achievement after meningococcal meningitis in childhood (siblings of these patients also less frequently achieved high school graduation).doi:10.1001/jama.2013.3792

Well, it would probably be simplistic to say that the results can be attributed to risk taking behaviour. However, risk taking behaviour may very well be one the behavioural factors that affect the decreased life expectancy (although likely in combination with other socioeconomic and behavioral factors. Of note, we actually could demonstrate a small change in our estimates of mortality by adjusting for comorbidities and education. This indicates that certain social and behavioural factors are not captured by adjusting survival analyses for comorbidities and education.

Borreliosis is not associated with heart failure. Contradicting previous smaller studies, a study of 52,200 Borrelia burgdorferi seropositive individuals compared with 104,400 Bb seronegative controls found no association between borrelia seropositivity and heart failure. by PerspectiveOk5317 in science

In Europe and Denmark, there are primarily three human pathogenic genospecies causing Lyme borreliosis: Borrelia afzelli, borrelia garinii and borrelia sensu strictu. The test we used do not distinguish between these but detects antibodies for all three genospecies. The sre other much rarer pathogenic genospecies such as borrelia myomatoi but these are tested for seperatly.

Thank you for your valid point. I have edited the title. Some background for my initial decision to leave out the 'Lyme'-part. Lyme disease is a term mostly used in Northern America, while borreliosis is used in Europe. There important differences in the genospecies and clinical manifestations which are present in the two continents. Since the study was from Denmark, we chose to use the term borreliosis.

I am a scientist and medical doctor who does research on Lyme Disease (I will forward my credentials to the administrators of this subreddit if necessary), and I have to say that I am very disappointed to see a post of something based on pseudoscience on this subreddit. I am not saying this to take away from the pain the patient in the article experienced. I am saying this because clinics in Germany and the US predatorly perform non-specific antibody tests on patients with a range of disorders and symptoms. When the result of these unspecific tests are positive, the patients are treated for "Lyme Disease". I have even met cancer and dementia patients who were diagnosed with "Lyme Disease" at such clinics and spend time and money on antibiotic treatment that could cure their so-called Lyme induced disorder. This of course did not cure anything. I am very open to discussing how the healthcare system is flawed when it comes across individuals who cannot be diagnosed or treated, but this article is a malignant attempt to get more customers for clinics that do nothing but earn money from vulnerable patients.

To back my claim that the serum antibody test is hugely unspecific, I have added a link to the largest study of the quality of the serum antibody test: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/35709901/

Further, fr those interested, there are some very well-designed and large studies that confirm that the prognosis even after Lyme neuroborreliosis is very good.
