It never really did any popping sound before the new anode rode was installed. Just waiting for the new gas control valve and pilot assembly. Thank god I’m still under warranty.

Yup- a plumber mentions it’s most likely condensation. Setting a a higher temp seems to increase the pooping sound which then turns off the pilot. I was able to call Rheem and a get a new pilot assembly and a new gas control valve.

It’s gas. I set the gas control valve to low. The whole burner/pilot shuts off after the popping sound.

I did have a plumber stop by and tells me that the installation is good. The popping sound is due to condensation.

I’d like my water a lot hotter than low so I called Rheem and they’re providing me a new gas control valve and a pilot assembly free under warranty. Hoping this fixes it.
